daycare provider gifts

if you use a center or another form of non-relative daycare, what are you giving?

ds has 6 "teachers" with his group.  2 that are his primary (one all day and one from 4p- 430p when i get him) and 4 that are in the room or rotate based on the ratio.  obviously i need to get the 2 something a little extra, but what about for everyone else.

do scratch offs for the day care ladies work?  i am going to get something for the security guard too.  he is awesome.

Re: daycare provider gifts

  • I don't think you can go wrong with scratch offs.

  • There are 5 ?teachers? in my DD's infant room (1 is her primary), plus a couple of helpers. I asked the ?vice principal? for gift suggestions. She said what really worked for her when she sent her kids to the same daycare (and seemed appreciated) was bringing in breakfast for the teachers?bagels, pastries, etc. We?re going to send in bagels, spreads, orange juice. I might send in some sweets for the girls who come in during the afternoon to help out.

I thought about getting her primary a gift & then sending in a little something for the other teachers, but the VP said even though there are primary caretakers, they all help each other out.

  • what about bring in some sort of tray for them all to share? You can do a bagel tray (bagels cut in four, jellies, cream cheese, butter, plastic knives) and coffee since that can stay out all day long or maybe hoagies.

T2's daycare used to do a holiday mailbox and you can drop in whatever amount of money you wanted and it got divided equally amongst all the employees, I liked that because it covered everyone then I just got something small for his two main teachers

  • I was going to give a card with some money to Oliver's 2 main teachers. Maybe $30 each?

There are 4-5 assistants/floaters that are there in the mornings and after 4:00 when the main teachers leave. I'll probably give them a $10 gift card to Milkboy (it's only a few blocks away) or just $10 cash.

I may bring in some cookies, but I'm sure they'll get a ton of that stuff from other parents.

  • Another question --- do you get something for the director/ass't director??? Or, is it like hair salon, and you don't tip the owner?

  • My friend used to be a daycare teacher and I know she loved getting $5 gift cards for Wawa, Dunkin Donuts, and gas.  She said she would end up getting a bunch of them so she could get free lunch for a couple of days with the Wawa cards or even a free tank of gas.

  • I like the breakfast idea, someone at DDs daycare did that it was well received by the staff. I probably should have done that but I already started my individual teacher gifts so, maybe next year.

Im just doing something small for her two current teachers and the two teachers she had earlier this year in the younger toddler room. Im baking scones and lining them up in a little holiday-decorated ceramic bread pan with a bag attached including a festive cookie cutter, some hershey kisses and a target/starbucks/DunkinDonut gift card. With 4 teachers, even $10 each adds up fast.

Last year I noticed that her teachers both drank tea/coffee in the morning so I got them both insulated mugs with lids and a starbucks gift card.

As the child of a teacher, edible or spendable is the way to go. I cant tell you how many mugs and candles and other trinkets we always had cluttering our house when I was growing up.

thanks for the ideas ladies!  i think we are going to do generic gc's to dunkin or something (there aren't really any good places near-by) or the scratch offs and bring in breakfast early next week.  i am hoping we are able to do it before the other parents so it isn't all at once.

  • Oh great, 4 more effing gifts I have to buy.

Can I seriously just shoot myself. The amount of $$ I pay to this place they should be giving ME a gift.

  • Ari has 3 teachers and Keira has 2...I was going to do $20 wawa gc's.  I love all the girls, dh is b*tching saying we give them enough $, but I think they def deserve something extra.

I don't think the director should get a gift, although I have heard of people doing so

  • I'm planning on bringing breakfast in one day-I just have to decide if I want to make it all-I was thinking of doing a strata and baked french toast, or buy it (which is probably more realistic)

  • Does anyone else here do in-home?  I can't remember.  I only have one person to buy for, but I'm not sure what's an appropriate amount.  So far I have a little Willow Tree angel for her...and that's it.  Maybe I'll get her a $20 gift card and call it a day.
