can you believe it's mid-december?? this weekend would typically be my baking extravaganza but i'm catering a party on Sat evening...so i'll be busy with that. I'm thinking I might just do my Cinnamon Sugar roasted pecans this year and call it a day. everyone loves them and they're SO easy. plus, pecans are pricey this year so i'm pretty sure that will take up my baking budget.
what are you guys making? if not baking, what are your holiday-related plans this weekend?

June 2011
Re: holiday baking
No baking plans yet. I baked last weekend for family December birthdays. It was h's, his dad's and his uncles' birthdays. I just did a spice cake with cream cheese frosting out of the box. It was good.
I can tell you we are looking forward to h's cousin's white chocolate covered ritz PB crackers. OMG yum.
No plans this weekend yet. I want to see New Year's Eve but I heard it didn't get good reviews. We have also talked about seeing The Sitter.
i miss going to movies. that's one thing that we rarely rarely rarely do now that we have a child. whenever we get a night to ourselves, we typically spend it with friends bc we turn down so many other invitations from them other times. i'll make H go see New Years even if it did get bad reviews. i love those ensemble cast movies. plus, it looks light-hearted, which is always nice.
I was planning to do some baking for neighbors and work this weekend. I was going to make glazed lemon slice and bakes and smores cookies, but I ended up in L&D last night with another high blood pressure scare (I am ok and baby is ok) so I think I am going to just let go of the holiday baking this year. I have too many things planned lately and really need to just allow myself some time to relax and destress more.
ETA: I still plan on making some jalapeno jelly, spiced nuts and chocolate covered pretzels as gifts in the next two weeks.
I'm actually not baking/making anything this year. The only holiday related item I'll be doing is for H to take to his work lunch on Friday. I'm just making pasta salad with red peppers/green peppers/pepperoni so it's festive.
This Friday we have my work party and I was planning on getting tanked, but remembered that the cat's annual vet appointment is Saturday at 8 am. Damn H and his early rising, appointment scheduling self.
I'm skipping baking this year. Christmas really crept up on me this year.
This Saturday we are having my family over for Christmas. We couldn't find a time for everyone to get together next weekend, so we are doing it early. I'm really bummed about having Christmas so soon, but at least we'll all be able to get together.
Saturday is our first Christmas with my mom's side of the family and DH's BFF's annual Christmas party. I am bringing green bean casserole and corn.
Maybe breakfast with santa at church on Sunday morning, Festival of Lights at the zoo, Duke Energy train display at the museum or the holiday in lights show at the park.
I got the stuff to make cranberry white chocolate oatmeal cookies. I always make the peanut butter cookies with the Hershey kiss in the center. they are the favorite of everyone in my family. I might try to make no bakes. I never have made them.
Audrey and I are going to dip some marshmellows and pretzels in chocolate and decorate them as gifts to family so we will be doing that prior to the party. I got the huge 5 lb ghiredelli chocolate bars from Sam's.

My ambitious list is:
Sugar cookies
Bourbon balls (recipe from this month's food network magazine)
Peppermint bark
chocolate chip cookies
We'll see if that happens!
I've already made 5 kinds of cookies that I boxed up for friends and family. Tonight I'm making a Christmas tree cake for a holiday bake-off at work tomorrow. This weekend I'm making more cookies to give to the neighbors. I still have to make cookies for all of DH's and my private students, but I think they may end up being New Year's cookies instead of Christmas cookies.
I'm making peanut butter cups now. I'll probably make dough for cut-out cookies tomorrow and make them Saturday. I might also do some cupcakes and junior mints. Our party is Saturday so I'm trying to get ready for that.
I'll probably make more stuff next week for our family get-togethers. I love Christmas baking!
