Can I vent for a moment please?
I just need to get this off my chest...
We have our auditors in with us at the moment. They were given 3 folders on their first day with all the reconciliations (except 2 which weren't complete) and all the back-up to those reconciliations (such as bank statements, credit card statements...) as proofs.
On Monday I was talking to the lead person and specifically asked did they need further information from my team as they had not sat with anyone in the first 6 days of audit. She said no, they had everything. Late Monday I get an email saying that they didn't realise that cash testing was done in prior years and could they set a time for this. Then it was payroll and purchasing. Then it was revenue.
Next, they are asking me for copies of things that were in the folder I gave them - they misplaced one reconciliation, didn't bother looking completely at others and when I pointed out they had back-up and did they want additional back-up they say "oh, we didn't see it there" - it was stapled all together, nicely labeled, in folders, with named dividers.... It could only be clearer if I went through every sheet with you!!!!
They are annoying me now as they hope to be done by Friday and don't appear to know what they are doing!!!
Ok, vent over.... I feel a little better....

Well, I spoke to the lead person after she got an email from me. Apparently, they have decided (before getting here) to change their approach to this year's audit and they have done a lot of testing on our systems and this is the basis of their audit and not so much substantive testing... And she hadn't done the audit last year so didn't know about the cash testing...
I told her that it came across that they were unprepared and that I didn't know what was going on.
I have also had a call from their manager who heard I wasn't too happy. Communication is my main problem with them, or should I say lack of. He apologised, said they'd learn from it, thanks for the feedback, etc, etc, etc...Especially as it was an entirely new team looking after us this year, from director down to audit juniors not a single one of them had worked with us before!
Anyway, I feel slightly better this afternoon!
