  • oooohhhh - you get a holiday shutdown?  Color me jealous! We just get one day for each holiday (Mondays since Christmas/New Years are on Sundays).  Enjoy your time off!!!!!!!

  • We get the 24th-27th off and then the 31st-2nd off. Most people take the three days between, but I enjoy being at the office - it's quiet and no one really expects any work to get done Big Smile

  • We do.  The university is pretty much closed down, so there's not a whole lot going on at the Library during that time.  The Library will still be open, but it'll be run by the usual night and weekend workers.

We don't take a lot of the "small" holidays throughout the year, so that we can have all the extra time after Christmas.  So our last day is next Thursday, and we don't come back until January 3rd.  It's nice.

If I ever get a different job though, it'll SUCK because I'm so used to this and so spoiled, after almost 15 years of it.  lol

  • Oh, AND... since we get paid the last working day of every month, that means I'll get paid on December 22nd and won't get another check until January 31st.  It's the same amount of money, so technically it shouldn't matter, but it does make for a VERY long January every year.  You'd think after all this time, I'd be smarter about it, but I always end up spending too much on those last minute gifts and then after christmas sales.  lmao  I'm planning to NOT do that this year.  We'll see.

  • My last day is next Thursday too!  Then I am off until 1/3.  DH gets close to the same break too.  Since they work crazy hours in the summer his employer gives them a week off at Christmas.  It's nice that we get that time off together.

  • Also, I am SOOOO glad we get the 23rd off.  We host DH's family for Christmas at our house so it is just crazy when I have to get everything done with so little time.  We actually have a calendar made for the whole week leading up to Christmas with plans for what we need to do after work each day so we aren't frazzled right before.

Keith took a week vacation this year, on that week.  And, while I'm glad I get to spend time with him, well, I'm used to having that time to myself.  So it's going to be hard.  lol

  • I have the same end of year schedule that you do because I work at a University. We get next friday (the 23rd) through January 3rd off paid (we get the extra friday and monday since Christmas and NYs are on Sundays this year). DH works for the university too so he gets it off too. We're super excited for an 11 day break!

In the past I've used vacation time to take off the week between Christmas and New Years, since I worked at a financial company who was open during that time.

What's sad though is that I'm really really tempted to use some vacation days to make my break even longer because I just need some time off and I'm getting inpatient waiting for it for another week. But thinking about it logically, doing that just seems ridiculous and a waste so I'm trying to avoid doing it. First world problem I guess right?

  • I'm sooo jealous that so many of you get nice Christmas breaks.  I get my normal weekend, boo...work on Friday the 23rd and come right back to work on Monday the 26th, same with New Years.  We do get two floating holidays since Christmas and New Years Day fall on a weekend, but those have to be used post-holiday. Technically I could have used a vacation day, but only 50% of the staff gets approved for time off and since I'm kind of the new kid around here, I knew I wouldn't get approved.  So a lucky 50% of us get to be here in the office those days, bahumbug!
