I bought a gift card to a restaurant a few weeks ago for my grandmother. SHe and I have this thing where we go try oysters at different places around town and this place was new and so I thought this way we could go try it. Well, I saw today that the doors were closed and the restaurant it out of business. No word on if it is filing for bankruptcy. THe website and phone number don't work. Anyone know if I am just out the money or is there something I can do? The restaurant is called Cafe Roux. Thanks!
BTW, I put some good money down for this gift card and if I am just out the money I can't really afford to just go buy something else so I am not sure what to do. thanks again for input!
Re: xmas gift card help
You can try to get in touch with Better Business or Local Chamber of Commerce.
If they knew they were going out of business at the time you bought the gift card, they had to presume a gift card was for Christmas/Holidays and wouldn't be used until after the fact, and they didn't tell you about going out of business then it's misleading and they stole your money.
Is there something that says an expiration date? or terms ?
You're entitled to your money back, however it may be more expensive to "sue" for it. If you can find somewhere where they would get their business license, (maybe the city?) there's gotta be a bankruptcy trustee, you may be able to contact them and demand a refund.
