Ideas for my DH's grandmother...

I'm done shopping for Christmas except for my DH's grandmother. She's a wonderful lady and she loves helping the family in anyway possible and gives her money away before spending it on herself. I'm trying to come up with a good gift idea but what do you buy the women who has everything and wants nothing?? She loves shopping at second hand stores and plays bingo frequently but I hate giving money as a gift since its seems so impersonal.

Re: Ideas for my DH's grandmother...

  • Does she have any hobbies besides bingo? Does she like a particular store? A gift card to her favorite store/restaurant could be less impersonal than cash, or you could make something for her. Also, a cute idea- a friend of mine found an old photo that her grandmother cherished and had it restored for her... I don't know if any of these ideas would help you, but since you say she has everything, I would tend to go with something personal.
  • How about a gift card to a grocery service?

  • Ah!! I'm so sorry that I'm NO help; I entered the post hoping for ideas for mine and DH's grandmothers, but listed just doesn't really fit...

I'll keep thinking and will hopefully revisit this post FULL of ideas!!

  • I often struggle with grandparent gifts.  What about a nice food basket from Stonewall Kitchen or Harry & David? Or a throw blanket? I bought DH's GM a throw from Pottery Barn with one of her initials stitched into it.  GL!

  • Some ideas I've had for grandmas:

     New gloves and scarf set

Nicely framed family photo (this year I am actually doing a photo charm bracelet from Snapfish for my grandma with picture of the family)

Ring with birthstones of all the grandkids

Gourmet food baskets-my grandma LOVES these

    Cashmere cardigan

  • If she loves bingo, how about a gift basket full of cute bingo stuff? Put in the different colored bingo markers, maybe some snacks to take along. Complete it with some traditional "good luck" charms like a rabbits foot or a troll doll. You could put it all in a bag that she carries her bingo stuff in.

     Just a thought...

  • Wow thank you for all the great ideas! She is kind of a hoarder which makes it hard because she honestly has her home plus 4 storage units! Her hobby is garage sales & flea markets, buying not selling! :-) I actually found out a second hand store that she loves sells gift cards, it's different but at least I know she'll enjoy it. I think I'm going to do the bingo basket suggested as well.

  • Before my great-grandma passed away (this is a woman who had EVERYTHING), she loved lasanga my mom made, so we'd get a disposable casserole dish, prepped and everything, all she had to do was throw it in the oven.  She also LOVED pizza, so we did gift certificates to the local place.

My DH's grandma loves sudoko puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, to occupy her day.  His other grandma likes lotions and slipper, so lots of bath and body works.

my grandma--I get that woman wine--that's how I know I'm related to her
