Help me - baby changing pads

We are going to go ahead and replace DS's old crib mattress with a naturepedic.

DH suggested getting a naturepedic changing pad, and I just agreed - until I saw the price.  Good lord.  I care about organic, and offgassing, etc., but that's just where DD will get changed, pee, and poop. 

Anyone have a rec for a decent changing pad that holds up that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?  Am I being cheap?

Honestly I never thought about buying an organic changing pad. I figure it is going to get body fluids on it and they aren't on it that long, so I bought a used one at a JBF sale for $10 and I expect it will last just fine through baby #2. I think they hold up well anyway since they always have a cover on them.

We're totally cheap - we have an inflatable one from IKEA that cost $7, I think (and another $6 for a two-pack of covers). He gets changed on it three times a day: once before bed, once during the night, and once in the morning. The rest of the time he's downstairs and gets changed in the PnP or on the floor on a cloth mat (a Kanga Care changing pad from Giggling Green Bean).

That makes me feel way more reasonable.  I shall carry on in my push for an inexpensive changing pad.

nope, I took a cheapo hand-me-down one. If I had to buy one I'd buy a cheap used one, that is one item I wouldn't spend a lot on, but I am frugal...

We use a cheap hand me down too. I figure most of the offgassing has probably already happened, since who knows how old it is (in fine shape, but still at least a few years old), plus reusing materials is always more efficient than making new ones, no matter how earth-friendly they are. So maybe CL or asking around your friends?

Apparently I'm really, really cheap, because we never got a changing pad at all. We used the changer on the pack and play until she was too heavy, then we used the floor (on a blanket) or on our bed (on a towel). I say go with the cheap one!
