Those with DD-BR

I was going to ask on the bump but figured there are a few of you over here...

My DD has been getting a re-occuring yeast infection..so bad that one night I took her to urgent care, real red and blistery.. I was given antibotic cream and told to use it for 10 days, after 10 days we went back for a check . It still wasn't clear so we were given more cream and told to use for another 10 days. Well last night she is bright red again and in pain.  I called the ped's this afternoon because my mom said it's not any better today and now I am just waiting to hear back from them, but what else could it be. It can't be normal for her to have one for this long.  Does any one else DD's get them?!?

  • DD hasn't had one, sorry about your DD that has got to be so painful!  I have no idea, but maybe if the cream isn't helping, she needs antibiotics?

  • Could it be an allergic reaction to the diapers themselves?  Try a different diaper.  Let her air out as much as possible without diapers.  Ask for a different medication.

I don't have a girl, but my boy has had a yeast infection on his butt before (I assume that's where you're talking about?).  Ours was absolutely caused by the diapers.  The first time he had it was because we got yeast in his cloth diapers and I had to treat them for it.  When he went to a daycare where I couldn't use cloth diapers, I had to switch to disposables. We found he was allergic/sensitive to certain diapers and had to stick to one kind. His brother is similar with diapers, but he has sensitive eczema filled skin too.

Good luck, I hope it heals soon!

I think we also did some frequent baths and let him air out a long time to make sure he was 100% dry before diaper went back on.  (Be sure to dry completely during diaper changes too)

I thought maybe it was the diapers, but we have been using the same diapers since she was maybe a month old.  I am willing to do anything. And no it's not the butt it's the girl parts (LOL, is that the right way to say it, hahahah). We do diaper off time every night. I think I might start giving her a shower instead of a bath, maybe the soap is an issue as well. I am going to ask for something different or maybe some other suggestions from them, at this moment I am still waiting for them to call me back...

  • I'm obviously not a mom, but I used to get UTIs a lot when I was a baby/kid.  I was really sensitive to soap and things.  I still remember that I wasn't allowed to take a bath with bubble-bath because it could cause an infection (I'm sure my mother could give you more details, but that is about all I remember, lol).  I would definitely recommend trying a different diaper and different soap.
  • Emma had a rash really similar to what you're describing once.  I don't know 100% if it was actually a yeast infection since I didn't take her in, but the nurse said it sounded like one. The nurse on call told me to buy some "Lotrimin" cream, which in essence is for athlete's foot.  It sounds absurd, and I was like "huh?" but she said that it works wonders.  She said to put on some of the lotrimin, followed by some of her regular diaper cream (to help keep the Lotrimin on I suppose) at every diaper change.  I have to say that it actually worked really well and all the little pimply blisters went away in a few days.  Hope she's feeling better soon!

This was me exactly!!!  I don't know much about what caused it either but had a lot of infections when I was younger.

  • Thanks everyone! We have another appt this morning  and I am going to ask a bunch of questions including if they think I should change her diapers and bath soap. I will also ask about the Lotrimin cream as well. Hopefully we find something that works!!
