At what point do you seek out a headhunter/recruiter type agency for making a professional move? (I also posted this on another board, some of you may have viewed it there)

Re: ? (Work related)

  • for me, it would likely be when I am ready to make a move, and searches on my own were unproductive (ie, through your standard web sites, networking, etc.). Once you do take that step, you have to be committed to moving to a new, presumably better place, or else you're wasting their time/money and yours. I am not a believer in paying for said service bc at some point, if the company wants you, they should be paying the recruiter to find you -- but I know that's an idealistic point of view bc you may have to pay for someone to find the job for you, esp if the employer doesn't even know he/she needs you yet.

The headhunter can also give you good advice on poilishing your resume, and adding keywords to help you get looked at more closely...

     And good luck!
