another question about my Suess party menu

As I posted below, I decided to ditch the Suess themed foods and just go with basic, easy to prepare crowd pleasing Italian food(penne with vodka sauce, sausage and pepper and meatballs. a couple salads and a tray of pinwheel wraps)

I was going to still be cutesy with the snacky type foods with a 1 Fish 2 Fish goldfish buffet, Hop on Pop Popcorn and chips and some sort of dip to call Oobleck.   Plus a veggie tray.    I really wanted to do something for Green Eggs and Ham other than dying deviled eggs green.   I was going to do a mini quiche like thing but the overall opinion was quiches were too fancy and brunch-like and didn't fit in.

What about a spinach and ham braid?   Something similar to this  http://www.food.com/recipe/spinach-ham-braid-194884

I would just dice up some regular ham instead of using deviled ham(what is deviled ham?)   I could slice the braid and arrange on a platter.

I know I don't really need a Green Eggs and Ham dish but it's such a well known book and I just feel like my Suess party wouldn't be complete if I don't include this book.

Re: another question about my Suess party menu

  • That doesn't sound bad, but it doesn't make me think of eggs.  (Deviled ham is just what they call canned ham.)

Here's a thought, but you have been opposed to deviled eggs so I don't know.  I put frozen spinach to my kid's smoothie.  You can't really taste a difference, but it does turn it green.  Soooo...how about taking some spinach and chopping it up to mix in with the egg yolks?  It would give you a green color without using anything artificial.  Then you could sprinkle on some bacon.  I'm debating if fresh or frozen would be better.  If you go frozen squeeze the heck out of it to get rid of the water.

  • I didn't want to do deviled eggs because DH hates deviled eggs and we both just think the ones dyed green look gross.    It's not because we're worried about green food dye.   So even if I make it with spinach, he's still going to vote against deviled eggs.

I did see a cute snack idea with white candy melt and a green m&m.   So I could make a plate of green "eggs" for the dessert table.   But I was planning going with the red and aqua color scheme for the dessert(thing 1 and thing 2 cupcakes with blue cotton candy hair, cat in the cat cupcakes, pretzels dipped in red or blue candy melts,  some red and blue candy)   But then again, I plan on putting the fruit salad out as the healthy dessert option so that's not going to go with my color scheme.     So the green "egg" candy could work.

  • Like 6, I think the dish doesn't sound bad, but it doesn't make me think of eggs.

Why don't you serve green eggs and ham to your children for breakfast that morning?
