It's Friday Night and I Feel Alright

Okay, maybe it's Friday morning but Friday morning doesn't really rhyme with anything.

I am laying in bed but had to come on and tell Sara that I asked if this was Amber's waterpark hotel and the desk said no. Haha!

Hope everyone has a spectacular Friday!

I am laying in bed but had to come on and tell Sara that I asked if this was Amber's waterpark hotel and the desk said no. Haha!

LOL.  That's funny.  Now, you've disappointed Sara forever.

I would probably sound like Sally from "A Charlie Brown Christmas" if I say what I really want, so I'll just leave it at that.

Rascal already has a nickname.  Big Guy.  It's what we both called him this morning as we were getting ready.  I know not too many of you are "cat people" but I feel like we've had some success already.  Our plan was to keep him in the hall bathroom for a while and follow the ASPCA's recommendations for introducing a new cat.  Their recommendation is that the two cats not come face to face for about two weeks.  We were going to wait that long.  However, Bill and his slow reflexes let Rascal scurry out of the bathroom last night.  He inspected the laundry room, the computer room and the box room before going back to the bathroom.  Later, he was fussing at the door and bumping it so we decided to go sit with him.  Well, he ended up getting out again (thanks to Bill) so we decided to just let it ride and see how it played out.  There has been minimal hissing, although they are walking lightly around the house and especially when they encounter each other.  We haven't gotten any purring yet but I think it's a matter of time.  My dad and brother are both so excited that they're coming over tomorrow instead of us going to them.

And, sorry this is a long post, but something strange happened yesterday afternoon:  my FIL called me.  CALLED ME.  I almost didn't answer it but decided to since it could have been an emergency.  He was looking for suggestions for Bill for Christmas.  Well, I didn't really have too many good ones.  I did suggest Star Wars on Blu Ray but they don't like to buy movies.

And, to borrow a phrase from Brianna's little old lady, my SIL is an ASH.  She has insisted on having Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve.  They have never done that before.  Bill repeatedly told her that he had ILs too and that we are trying to find a happy median so that everyone gets to see everyone at Christmas.  She just told him that we should spend Christmas with them every other year.

Lastly, Bill is telling his parents tonight that we are not staying with them.  This is going to be very upsetting for them and they are already upset that we are not staying longer.  I told him to remind them of two things:  1) we are married and we would like to have some alone time at Christmas (because there won't be a chance for too much time for just the two of us to have some quiet time this year); 2)  he did start a new job a year ago and doesn't have much vacation (and we are spending 3/4 of his time off at Christmas with them plus one day of vacation).

Sorry this is so long but I'm giving tests all day today and I have some extra time.

You are a real champ for at least asking for me! Thanks for the Friday morning laugh and enjoy your trip!

  • Well Julie, it's not about what is best for everyone else.  It's about what works best for you.  And if they don't like what you can do, then they can have their own fun while you stay home sipping hot chocolate.

Glad things are going well with the cats.  Two weeks seems a little long but what do I know about introducing cats?  Nothing, haha.  The people that had the house before us had 2 dogs who could not be around each other whatsoever.  They had to alternate everything; being outside, eating, etc.  I hope with their new house and both of the dogs being new to it, they are able to be around each other now.

  • Everybody needs to stop bringing cookies and stuff up to the office!  I definitely don't  need all that stuff hanging around!

I have to get all of my Christmas shopping finished this weekend. I'm not usually such a last minute person, but I dropped the ball this year :-(

  • Julie - glad to see the cat is adjust so well. We are having problems with Christmas sharing ourselves. Sadly, I don't think we will get to much time alone.

So glad it's Friday! My nephews came in yesterday and we just said up playing with them almost all night. I think we were at my parent's until 11:30. I'm very tired this morning. Now tonight and the next four days will be a repeat of the fun.

I don't know too much about this, but my bff's cat somehow contracted cat AIDS. Well that's the way she described it. It doesn't look good and she is working to keep her cat alive and well. She called me up crying last night and her birthday is this weekend. Of course she doesn't want to celebrate. I'm going to start googling cat AIDS to see if I do anything to help, but T&Ps for her would be appreciated.

Oh, no!  I'm so sorry.  Does she have other cats?  There is a vaccine that might be good for her to research if she does.

  • Julie - I hope your ILs get over the fact that you won't be staying with them and that you two can enjoy some time alone!

I'm off again today (we can't carry over vacation so I have to use it or lose it).  DH is off too because we were going to finish packing but since we finished last night we're going to finish off our Christmas shopping and then go see Sherlock Holmes!

She does and gave the kitten the vaccine a while ago and they are seperated for now. She said they can test the other cat in 6 months. The older cat was one most people wouldn't have taken because she has an "attitude". My friend saved her from being put down and it breaks my heart she's going through this around her birthday and Christmas.

  • Julie, I'm glad to hear the cats are adjusting to one another!

Deepthi, our border collie Agamemnon nearly died from "dog AIDS" when he was just a puppy. I nursed him through it, and now you'd never know he was so close. It could be your friend is due for a Christmas miracle! I'll be praying.

Nesties, it's been wonderful getting to know all of you, but I am convinced I am dying, one cough at a time. Remember me well.

Catelynn and Tyler just set a date for their wedding: July 15, 2013

  • Well, this morning I walked outside to take Crispin for his morning walk, and there were two packages on the step.  One was from Collin Street Bakery, for a neighbor, that was delivered to the wrong house, so I took it over on my way to work.  The other is my Christmas present from J.  It's a Silhouette, and I am super duper excited about it, but I am so disappointed that I already know.  Even though I knew before this, because he ordered it with his debit card, through the account we share, rather than his credit card, that I don't have to look at as often.  And also, I didn't give him many suggestions for presents (like, two), so I kind of knew he was getting it even before all of that... but I'm just bummed that now I know for sure, and it's still 10 days away.  Tell me to stop being pathetic, because this is my own fault (for not giving him more suggestions in the first place), and because I really am pumped about the actual gift.

And also, I didn't go in the kitchen this morning, which means I did not start the crock pot for dinner tonight.  Sometimes J does, but he's sick, so I doubt it.  Oh well, jambalaya tomorrow night will be just as good.  Thank goodness it's Friday!

Julie & Deepthi - yay and boo for your kitty situations, respectively!

Chelsea - have you tried whiskey & honey & lemon, warmed up?  I've only done it once, but it worked pretty well (and I'm not a whiskey girl, at all).

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has done this, successfully.   People look at me like I'm nuts...but I've taken a small shot of whiskey on multiple occasions and it really WORKS!

  • Ever since my grandma retired, she doesn't really have a concept of time and I've always just gone with the flow but it's starting to bug me.  In the last week alone, I have given her our holiday schedule at least 3 times.  She's coming up for the holiday, she just doesn't know when or for how long.  It could be in a couple of days, it could be a week from now.  It doesn't really matter when she comes but it does because I don't want her feeling left out when it comes to gifts; do I need to get her 8 or what?  I will just have to do my best and let that be it.  I've also been trying to think of practical gifts for her because she needs more necessities then what we've given her in the past so I have been lying through my teeth because I don't want to give her all gift cards or just cash.

I'd definitely be willing to try it, but we don't have honey. We have whiskey & lemon. If my current method of shooting Dayquil, popping cough drops, and wishing for death doesn't help soon, I'm sending Mack to the store to get honey so I can try your method.

  • I've heard of people doing it without the honey - but I think the honey helps too.  Or you could just do the whiskey alone, and drink till ya pass out, and forget that you're sick?  haha I kid, I kid.

Whiskey alone works fantastically on an early sore throat!    If your coughing though it would probably just make it hurt more. :(

  • Julie, that is one gorgeous cat! My MIL has this long, drawn-out way of introducing new cats which includes keeping the new cat in a crate in the cat room (yes she has a cat room) for an extended period of time. I always laughed at it, but I never thought about an actual ASPCA recommended method! In our family, we generally just let them do their thing and figure it out on their own.

Jaymi - I'm so happy to see that Catelynn and Tyler have set a date! Love them!

Honey and lemon both have antibacterial properties (and I guess whiskey would too, for that matter), so it makes sense that it could kill any kind of infection in your throat. I don't think that even being sick could get me to drink whiskey, though! lol

  • $4 magazine subsciptions, anyone??  No auto-renewal, either!

I used brandy when I was in college.  It worked better than NyQuil.

I get BHG and like it.  I just started getting Good Housekeeping also, and I'm not sure how well I like it yet, because I haven't had time to read either of the issues I've gotten so far.

  • Hey, who is coming to boot camp tomorrow AM? Anyone?    Jay and Zeus will both be there and there is a nutritional meeting afterwards.

Guests are free, so anyone can join us!!

  • Julie, I'm not a cat person but Rascal is very very pretty!  I'm glad they are getting along.

Chelsea sorry you feel bad!  Hope you feel better soon.

I'm fine all day long and then I get into bed and I start couching, get sick to my stomach, and my hips feel like they are breaking apart.  I tried tylenol pm last night and I think it worked opposite.  I was awake from 12:30-5:30 this morning just lying there wide awake.  I woke up at 6:45 from my nap and started getting ready for work and the couching stopped, the sick feeling went away and hips just hurt but not breaking.  I don't get it.  I have tried sleeping propped up to help the coughing.  I have no other symptoms of sickness except the random night time cough and it isn't even coughing anything up just coughing to cough.  Oh well I guess it just isn't meant for me to sleep right now.  I feel very unproductive just sitting in bed though. I feel like I should be doing something but the house was cleaned Monday (got a cleaning lady now!!!) and there isn't much more I can do in Caroline's room right now and I'm done with school so I just sit.

Just sitting there is probably the best thing for you right now. Can you just call into work?

  • Whiskey, lemon and honey is called a hot toddy!!  We used to do this all the time as kids.  Yep, as kids, alert the authorities.  The honey helps coat the throat and takes the zing out of the whiskey.  I recommend including it.

I could but then I get a lecture from my boss about how this is our busiest time of year and is there any way I can make it in.  I get that normally 4th quarter is our busiest time but this year we are SO slow and I just sit here and Nest all day but I wasn't in the mood for a lecture today plus I'm trying to save PTO in case I do get sick or just need a day off closer to delivery.

Gasp!  How in the world did you turn out okay, with parenting like that?!?  Haha I kid.  The things we did as kids would definitely be frowned on today - much less when our parents were kids!  It's kind of a shame that little ones these days are so "protected" from some things, ya know?
