Not sure if you are a worry wort like me, but I just wanted to wish you lots of luck with your NT scan today.
Hope you're little one puts on a good show for you and that you get your results faster than we are!
Re: Stilldreaming
Thanks!
I am pretty calm, but am eager to see what this test shows.
I'm also eager to be leaving work early on a Friday.
You'll get your results next week? Even if they are fine? I always hate that - that they dont call you with good news only bad.
Totally butting in here. The results from the combined tests can be confusing. They're not given on a pass/fail type or negative/positive system. They give you ratios. For example, they will tell you that based on the u/s and blood test you have a 1 in 7500 chance or a 1 in 50 chance of having a child with chromosomal issues.
It's basically to help you determine if you want to go on for more invasive testing like CVS and/or an amniocentesis.
GL! And enjoy the u/s.
Good that you are calm about it!
I was hoping to get at least the ratio from the ultrasound on the spot, I knew we would have to wait for the blood test. A lot of people seem to get it on the spot. We didn't which is annoying.
I'm also a little taken aback that by the time the results get back we will already have missed the window for CVS testing which leaves us with amino only.
I hear amino is less risky (but what do I know!), but kind of lean towards earlier being better if there is some compatibility with life issue.
When I called the nurse asked me if I had discussed doing CVS instead of NT scan with the doctor, which took me aback more as we haven't seen a doctor with them, just a nurse and this option wasn't raised at our 8 week appointment despite us saying we wanted to do 'everything' re testing.
Oh well it is what it is and it sure was nice having the ultrasound! : )
I did request to see a dr next week (instead of the nurse again) so we can go through some of this stuff. We are clearly just too clueless! : )
thanks LD, my IRL job is a statistician, so I deal with probabilities and chance a lot. and even though i make tough decisions based on these numbers daily, when it comes to me personally, its unsettling. i want more concrete yes/no. downs or not downs.
amnio is invasive and has a mc risk that i prob dont want to deal w/ unless my # is like 1 out of 2 chance that the baby is missing key ingredients.
Ok, you get it. Just wanted to make sure you guys were aware of the way the results work with that test. There's a lot of mis-information out there.
