VENT A ROO!

Hi friends. I know I haven't been around as much lately, but I NEED to get this off my chest (although I already screamed about it to DH and my mom and it didn't really help, so...)

My inlaws are coming for xmas for EIGHT NIGHTS. Yep that's right. 8 crazy nights. This is MIL, FIL, SIL and her hubby. I get a long with them really well, but for me anyone in my house for eight nights is difficult. Luckily, my parents offered for them to stay at their condo 5 minutes from out house for at least a couple of nights. THEY HAVE REFUSED.

Basically DH emailed them and said "we're not saying we don't want to have you, but the condo is available if you want your own space/more comfy bed/to be away from our crazy dog" HINT HINT. I mean, anyone would get that that means "please stay there" right? They didn't, but of course SIL says maybe if the pull-out gets uncomfortable they might change their mind, so we should go clean the condo this weekend anyway. UH NO, sorry not spending my very busy weekend cleaning so you can go there if you're uncomfortable - nevermind the fact that you're imposing for 8 days without even asking if that's okay.

The most hilarious part about this is that when we have gone up to MIL and FIL's house for xmas in the past, we stayed at their neighbor's house bc their house was too cramped. WTF! Our house is bigger, but still!

 I hope Bruce eat's my SIL's shoe.

Ok, I'm done. Feel free to tell me if I'm being ridiculous.

Re: VENT A ROO!

  • Not ridiculous at all! I can't imagine having people at my house for that long! Lord! The only time we stay at a place that long is at my MIL's, and she still allows her 22-year-old daughter and her 26-year-old boyfriend to live there for FREE even though they both have good jobs (don't get me started), so I don't feel bad about it. Plus, that is all the way in Texas, so I know she is glad to have us there as long as she can.

I wish there was a way you could make them stay there. I will put on my sly-b!tch thinking cap for you....

DH offered to call them with the more *ahem* direct approach, but I feel like then there will be resentment and awkwardness the whole time because we didn't "want" them there. I think we're stuck with it. I just hope I get over this anger so I don't explode on anyone!

  • Plant a dog treat in her shoe. Or a baggie of bacon in their luggage...or better yet, get their bed to smell like food so he jumps up there at night...Oh, Bruce got in your stuff? Dang! Yea, he is sometimes hard to handle like that...maybe you would feel more comfortable at the condo?

  • Yikes!  8 days is CRAZY! I would offer one more time for them to stay in the condo, they can't be that dense, they should get the hint, right?

  • Tell her that you are cleaning the condo to have ready for them, because after talking it over with your hubby, you guys thought it would be a lot better for everyone if they were at the condo, especially with Bruce. He just gets really energized at night, and you just know that he will jump on your beds in the middle of the night and wake everyone up. It would just be a mess.

They are not dense and are very intelligent people, which is why I believe they DID get the hint and are choosing to selfishly ignore it. If I thought they were just stupid I don't think I'd be so angry!!

@ Holly - Maybe DH and I will just go stay at the condo! PERFECT! Wink

  • 8 nights... yikes.  I don't think I could handle anyone in my house for that long, let alone 4 in-laws.

My advice, if the condo thing doesn't work out... booze. Lots of it.

  • Um. Yeah.  That's a long time.

My fave part of your story is "Clean the condo just in case" UM NO!  They want you to be inconvenienced JUST in case??  haha crazyyyy

I know that's a hard situation, and you can't deal with it without hard feelings, so all I can say is good luck

    (And yes, BOOZE)

  • Oh my goodness, I would go insane. Eight days with my own family would drive me crazy, 8 days with the ILs and I would go beserk!

I agree with Lori, if they won't stay in the condo, load up the house on booze. I have a feeling you're going to need it.

  • Holy Moly!  8 days is an uber long time!  Since we are using Bruce as a scapegoat. It'd be funny if you could get him to pee on command or some other nasty habit and say "told you so"!

Good luck my dear!  I hope they realize soon that they need to stay at the condo for a good portion of it!

This!! 8 days is a long time, esp for ILs!

And yeah don't you have a magic wand to clean the condo in like 5 seconds? I always have mine handy for those last minute mind-changers . . . (can you hear the heavy sarcasm in my voice . . . )

Would you like me to send you some herbal stress supplements to calm your nerves? There's actually teas out there that have the same stuff in them, you could drink that in the early part of the day so you don't look like a total lush then switch to booze later in the day Wink

Good luck, I don't blame you for needing another vent source!! We are always here for you!
