Our fall vegetable garden is still growing. I have several nice heads of broccoli and spinach but my turnips are the traditional white and pink color but they are long and skinny. Do they still need more time to grow rounder or should I just forget about it because the temperatures are starting to drop to below freezing at night here. I pulled one up today just to check it out and it is disappointing.
Re: Turnip Q
I found that my turnips' growth slowed considerably during the winter. Once it began to warm up some (late Feb/March), they hit a growth spurt and I harvested them toward the 1st of April. But, I only grew them for the greens, not so much the turnips.
Same thing now. I planted collards and spinach as my cover crop. They are growing, but rather slowly. I think it's just the weather is too cold.
I used some of the greens. I'll leave the turnips alone and see if they grow anymore I guess.
At least I'm happy with the fall broccoli!
