Silver-blue bedroom w red brick?

Sorry..no picks just yet as everything is a mess and I'm waiting for baby-boy to arrive on the scene.  I'm hoping just to pick the brains of you decor-ladies.

I live in a converted school...our bedroom was the locker hallway and is basically long and narrow.  To give you an idea how narrow,  we have a king sized bed against the short end of the wall and have just enough room on one side for a night table, but not for the other side as well.  The room is super lengthy, however, and we are "splitting" it in half where the bedroom door is (about 1/3 of the room) for our baby's nursery area.

The short ends of the room are drywall painted a soft almost cream cheese icing color.  The long ends of the room are brick....the side with massive windows is painted the same icing color, but the interior wall remains rusty colored, natural brick.  The only other red I have are bookshelves (about the same color, ironically as the brick) on the short short end of the room.

OK...so here's the thing, I'd love to have a silver-blue bedroom.  The first few images from google are along the color I'm thinking of...(http://www.google.com/search?ix=hcb&q=silver+blue+bedroom&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=wyjuTsxM4tfRAZ3H3NQJ&biw=1916&bih=958&sei=2ijuTuvOGIb30gGg1LzSDQ)

I do not want an entirely "cool/chilly" room though and thought the brick would warm it up ... but am wondering if brick/rust red would be too stark of a "pop" for the kind of blue I'm wanting in the bedroom.  What do you think?

Also what furniture color would be best?  We have a hand me down dresser right now in beech that we could keep, paint, replace.  The nursery furniture on the polar end of the room (consisting just of crib and changing table) are natural wood...which seems to blend smoothly with our bedroom dresser.  We purchased that in particular so we could choose safe-stain if we desired, but DH kind of likes the natural wood look.

What do you think?  Also, is there another accent color I should consider?

Re: Silver-blue bedroom w red brick?

  • i like the idea of a silver blue bedroom w/brick. if you do it right, it can be a good balancing of the two colors w/the one cool and the other warm. the brick can have a fun, textural/industial feel, too.

i think you can work in the wood finish that your dh wants easily enough. it is all about balance. if you have a finish repeated 2-3 other times in the space, it makes more sense of it, if there is another finish in the same room (which should also be repeats a few times).

for an accent color, you could go w/any number of shades. soft greens, greiges, soft yellows, even a fun splash of orange.

  • One of my favorite color combinations is blue, brown and a pop of orange/coral/red.  I think it is so pretty.  You could easily paint the walls blue, do dark brown or medium brown finishes on the furniture and pick bedding in a print or a solid blue/tan/white/cream.
  • If it were me, I'd want to make sure it's not too blue. More of a silver and I think you'd be fine. The natural wood sounds gorgeous. And your bedroom sounds gorgeous. Please post pics when you can.

  • Have you seen "He's Just Not That Into You?"  Many of the sets have exposed brick and a blue/silver or gray color scheme.  Here is a site that shows a glimpse of most of them.

Janine's was my favorite, you could pull some inspiration from there.

  • What about using a rich blue interior paint and then accenting with silver pieces? The red fireplace will certainly warm up the room!
  • I like the idea of this color mix, its beauty can be further enhanced with proper curtains and drapes. The tie band for curtains can also improve the look of the room.Plymouth drapery
