I just saw your weight gain post and I wanted you to see this Smile When you saw the LC did you do a weighed feeding (I think that's what it's called) to see how much he was taking each feeding? I had a somewhat lazy eater (only took 1 oz and then fell asleep). When I saw an LC at home and she noticed that he only took 1 oz she gave me a nipple shield to try so he would feel it more in his mouth and continue to suck and he took another oz after putting that on. Just a thought. GL!

Edited for clarity.

  • We did do a weighed feeding.  And then I bought a homescale so that I could do weighed feedings at home.  No suggestion of a nipple shield though.

Thankfully, he went on a binge this weekend.  He ate 9 oz in one feeding Friday night and gained 8 oz. from Thursday morning to this morning.

If we start lagging again, I will check into a nipple shield though.  For the most part we're past the falling asleep while nursing thing.  Now I think the problem is conversion to a bottle at daycare and being distracted at daycare so he doesn't want to eat a lot.
