Dexter Finale-Major Spoilers

Omg. I can't believe Deb finally knows. I don't even know what else to say.

Re: Dexter Finale-Major Spoilers

  • A whole season of crap for one moment of OHMYFUCKINGGOD!!!

Do we have to wait until September now? Gah.

  • I knew it was coming but I am completely beside myself. I think "omg" sums it up well. I can't believe we have to wait until September now.
  • It was crazy! I'm not liking the "I'm in love with Dexter" theme..

  • By the end, I knew it was coming, especially when I noticed the dialogue between Dexter and Travis start to drag. Plus, it just sums up all of Dexter's sloppiness to kill in the place where Deb sent him to work for the night! It was hard to believe that she actually walked all the way in and saw the exact moment of the stabbing.

I thought that it actually puts kind of an interesting twist on it now that she is supposedly "in love" with him. What is she going to do now?

  • I hate the "Deb's in love with Dex" story line but I feel like she had to come to that realization before she could see him for what he really was. I think had she not come to that realization (disgusting as it is... ew) she would probably not accept it. Now I wonder if she will take over Harry's role in Dexter's life... making sure those who slip through the system get the justice they deserve...?
  • I can't believe they didn't go more into the hand from ITK.

I was wondering how the were going to end it in regards to what happened to Travis. I would have thought Dexter would have made it look like a sacrifice to God and Travis commit suicide.

  • Wowza.  That was pretty jaw-dropping.  I was kinda wondering if they are working to writing Deb off the show...I can't imagine how she could stay with those two revelations about Dexter.

  • OMG!!!

I'm so shocked that he got caught by Deb.

  • Also, I worry that Masooka being an ass to the weird intern isn't going to end up okay in the next season.

I think Deb is gonna make the intern back off of Dexter once she realizes that he's onto Dexter being a murderer.

I suspect that won't be an issue anymore.

I kept thinking how mean it was to Jennifer Carpenter to write Deb as being in love with Dex two seconds after their divorce in real life, but man. I guess she gets her revenge, heh.

  • Did anyone else see this coming a mile away? I thought we had been talking about that being the cliffhanger for this season for at least 7 weeks now. So, it was very anti-climactic for me, just as the entire season has been. The only good thing about this atrocious season (imo), is that it hopefully sets up a fantastic next season. I just didn't enjoy Season 6 at all, I thought it was quite disappointing.

This is along the lines of what I think.  The "being in love" is more of a set up to put her in the position of now wanting to protect him and help keep his secret safe.

However, we're also kind of taking a leap that she "knows".  All she knows right now is that he killed Travis.  Dexter has a way of spinning things - he may talk his way out of this (how, trust me, I have no idea) and keep her off the track of his being a serial killer.

  • I was screaming "HOLY SH!T" when she was walking in! I couldn't believe they did it at the end of this episode. I thought maybe next season but oh well.

And I knew she would be in love with him...so gross. I was cracking up when she said that....you knew it was coming though because of how she reacted every time she was close to him.

Also..thought it was funny when she said she was in love with him and then saw him stab Travis "a la BHB style" (can't remember if they ever showed how he did it when they were searching for him...but it's also similar to Brian/Ice Trucks style). I was wondering how she felt after the last time saying " you think I wanted to fall in love with a serial killer?" to the therapist.

  • Anti-climatic, as I also have said from the beginning that they were finally going to let her in.

Someone above mentioned they must be writing her our of the story, and I doubt that. In the books, Deb finds out early on what her brother does, and stays as a major character throughout the series. I could be wrong, since they haven't been following the books too closely anyways, but I highly doubt they are going to kick her off.

  • I had guessed that Deb was going to find out. The fact that she found out about Matthews (who was like a father to her) and kept it quiet, leads me to believe that she will also keep this quiet. Oh, and she is in love with him.

Does anyone else find it not odd that she has fallen for him? I mean, it's not like they were super close as brother and sister. I feel like even when they are together, there is no real depth coming from Dex's side at least, and maybe she has picked up on that subconsciously. Dex has always kept his distance from everyone, even Rita. The only person he has ever felt close to was Lumen. Dex and Deb are in their 30's and he just said "I love you" for the first time. They are adopted, of no blood relation and had kinda a weird upbringing (hardcore cop for a dad). She obviously has  "thing" for super intense men, being in love with ITK and not wanting to marry Quinn.

Obviously, it's still has a huge "ick" factor going on, but I am actually intrigued by it. I wonder if he will feel connected to her in some way after revealing his true self/dark passenger.

I also chuckle thinking about how they just split in real life and now she has to play this up.

  • Maybe I'm just naive, but I'm still doubting Deb is really in love with Dexter. She has really messed up feelings in general regarding men and I don't think she has a clue what it really is. But that idiot therapist presented the idea and Deb jumped on it because it gave her some kind of answer to all her bad choices. What she does know is Dexter is the only constant in her life, and the person she can always turn to to solve her problems. I think she's confusing love with LOVE.

But by presenting this Debra confusion now, it's a convenient plot device to bring Debra more into Dexter's real life without jeopardizing his safety, or her morality. As long as Deb is confused about her feelings for Dexter, she is less likely to report him and that buys more time for her to learn about about the code and the nuances of Dexter's serial killer side before she gets all black/white about the law and what's wrong and right.

Dexter is not going to return feelings of LOVE to Deb. And I think his "I love you" was only a symptom of him thinking he was about to die just hours earlier. Not that he had any profound epiphany out there in the ocean that Deb was his one and only.

I did have to laugh that Deb rushed into his apartment to hug him while he was standing there half undressed. I was just thinking, "lord Dex put some clothes on. Don't be showing her that now..." heh.

I'm kind of curious to read the books now and find out how they introduce Deb to the real Dexter and managed to keep her mouth shut there.

  • Also....loved when Dexter said to Travis, if it's because of your God's will, then God wanted you on my table. I was saying why doesn't he say something like that to him?! seriously seconds before he said it. I thought he was going to say if it's because of God, well God wanted me to survive your trap in the water.

    2. how the hell did dexter get travis down from the high rise with his kid without anyone noticing?

  • In the books Deb knows about Dexter and is okay with it.

Also, what's happening with the hand the intern sent Dexter?  Is it still on his kitchen counter?  I feel like that story line wasn't wrapped up.

It's on the top of his fridge.  It's clearly going to be dealt w/ next season.

I said the same thing. I was thinking, yea ok, you held your kid and dragged a dude down a big arse building in broad daylight?

Yeah - I thought about this too.  But then I also thought about, now that we know Travis is working alone, how did he put together some of his tableau's??  The girl hanging from the roof of the greenhouse like an angel?  The horses?

All throughout the entire series, I've always felt there has to be a decent amount of suspension of belief.  The prep time that it must take to set up his kill rooms, then to actualyl kill the person, chop them up, clean everything up, etc....  I would think it would take HOURS and HOURS.

And now that he has Harrison?  It's amazing HOW flexible his nanny is to always be available when he needs her - no matter the time of day, length of time, etc (and she's supposedly a student...???)

I agree- things like how Dexter got him into his car in broad daylight aren't concerns to me.  It's TV magic.  Maybe there was a parking garage under the building that the elevator went directly into :P

Also, about the nanny- I said the same thing last night.  I was a nanny and there's no way I ever would have been that flexible.  She was ready to go out on her date and Dexter was all, "Oh I wanted to go out tonight" and she's all, "Ok, I'll cancel my date."

It can definitely go either way. He could either just spill about everything OR act like this is a one time thing. She knows about his boating accident and is still missing a victim for that tableau. Dexter just needs to say he was the victim and Harrison was the sacrifice, so he intervened and killed Travis. I think she would actually be ok with that (given her opinions on Lumen during season 5).

Yeah, I was thinking he doesn't need to mention the serial killer thing to her. He could simply justify Travis' death (with the Lake of Fire incident and Harrison being the sacrifice). He can say he got the killing idea from the BHB or whichever one they saw the plastic wrap.

Plus -- like PP mentioned -- I understand that he wanted to kill at the church but Deb sent him there, so that's not very secretive. He should have waited.

I'm glad she saw, but annoyed I have to wait 9 months.

I thought about this too. Like didn't Holly say there were two men. I could have sworn she said she heard two voices.

Sometimes it doesn't seem plausible that Gellar was dead the whole time.

She said she "thought" there were two men. She probably heard Travis talking to himself which made her think there was someone else. She only mentioned hearing Travis' voice.

But I think she's got a crush on Dexter, right?  Or at least she did?  I figured that's what some of the nanny/Deb tension was about, the nanny was making herself all substitute-mommy and getting possessive of Dexter and Harrison.  I figured that's why she's so accommodating.

I think Dexter's love for Harrison is a good angle, but since I have a son just a little older it really gets to me when they have Harrison sick or in danger.  I hope they find other ways to create suspense in the new season.  I feel like they really squandered the Mos Def character this season.

The whole sibling love thing reminds me a lot of The Royal Tenenbaums.  I think they could sell it if they wanted to, but boy, how uncomfortable for the actors now that they are divorced.
