Lurker with a question,

Hello, I'm a momma with a 5 month old, we are working on living greener. Those of you with a rain barrel, what do you do for the winter months? While I'm at it, does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? My plans are to start recycling (it's not offered in my area so I will have to take it somewhere) composting, stop using paper plates and paper towels, I've started using cloth diapers on my daughter. I'm also planning on doing a garden this summer. Any and all advice is welcome! :-)

Re: Lurker with a question,

  • In winter, we drain and cap ours.

All of your ideas are great for a good start!  That's a lot of what I do as well (except we haven't started composting yet).  I also use organic products, most of our food is organic, and I buy from farmer's markets, local farmers/stores, and resuse as much as I can.

  • Good for you!  I am always so shocked whenever I travel to work somewhere that does not have a recycling program and people throw cans and papers away.  I used to stockpile my own recyclables and find time to take it to a recycling center like 30 miles out.  People thought I was insane - so I know how hard it can be!
