NT scan follow up.
the child is human! a fuzzy staticy human. US was blurry- it was friday afternoon and the tech wasnt really patiently giving us anything great to see. but the neck doesn't have too much fluid behind it, heart rate was good, and baby still has 2 arms and a head. unsure where feet are, but they dont seem concerned.
we'll get the % back on Wednesday.
also - they told us about this amnio alternative that is hot off the presses. its a blood draw that looks at the babies dna that is found in the mother's blood. there is a high accuracy rate with detecting downs and others, but its only been tested on 2k subjects or so. its 235 dollars and there are two locations near here that do it - broomall and bensalem or bristol (i forget).
nytimes discusses it here
if our numbers come back unfavorable on wed, we are going to go for it.
Re: nomoreboozeforme
Congrats on the preliminary ultrasound looking good! Was baby stilldreaming moving around?
Do you know what your neck reading was? Ours was 1.9. I heard it should be below 3 (no idea what the unit of measure is!).
I have heard of this new test on BBC, but the nurse I spoke to at Lankenau hadn't. I see the doctor tomorrow and will pull up this article to take in with me. Thanks for posting it!
I heard it is really accurate for Downs, but doesn't pick up on some of the other abnormalities. I really need to sit down and do some research. Hopefully the doctor will know more about it. If not I will be saying hmmmmmmmm.
Are you happy with your OBGYN so far?
Lots of luck on your results, I really hope we get ours this week too.
normal is less than 3 millimeters.
the dr didnt tell us the measurement numbers, but i saw the numbers on the screen when the technician was measuring were .15-.17 centimeters (or 1.5-1.7 mm)
it wasn't my ob who did the readings but some other dude dr. while he was nice, he didnt communicate clearly or introduce me to his resident. minus two points on his clinical skills exam in my head.
good luck w/ your results!
UPDATE.
Baby dreaming has a 1 in 400 chance of getting ds and 1 in 10000 chance of getting trisomy 18.
good stuff.
i'm going to do the 2nd blood draw on 1/13 to get more conclusive ds numbers and spina bifida numbers.
again. gl w/ your results.
Those seem like some excellent results! Congrats and I'm really happy for you that you got results fast. Does that include blood work results?
We still don't have ours. Am unimpressed. Going in to see the doctor tomorrow. If they don't have results then and the dr is as clueless as the nurse was about MaterniT21, then I may be looking for a new office as I am losing a bit of confidence in them and I clearly need a lot more hand holding through this process than most people seem to!
Congrats again - I hope we are lucky with our results too.
no booze - i guess you aren't going to the pennsy system - the place on Spruce across from the hospital? God, I was there 20 times at least (I was monitored twice weekly for a long time) and I cannot recall the name of the place. Anyway that is where I went for the CVS test (didn't have it because he didn't like the position of the baby) and then had the amnio. I liked this one doc there who looked like Kal Penn, and most of the other docs, as well as the gals in the stress test area (I cried a lot. I was an emotional wreck half of the time). I also liked the genetics counselor who answered my calls and emails when I had them.
i just remembered - maternal fetal medicine.

nobooze -
that included the blood work results - that is how they came up with the ratios. the us plus bloodwork.
mr sd's genetic testing hasn't come back yet, but they said that would be a week longer.
i'm very happy with pennsy so far. the genetic testing is on the 8th floor of the spruce building - likely the place rum is talking about.
my ob is with the penncare for women practice in the curtis center. pennsy has a laborist system - so my ob isn't necessarily who will deliver me.
the genetic counselor has been a dream, patiently explaining to me 18 times what each condition is. even the ones i likely have .2323 chance of having.
its early, if you're not comfortable now, you have time to switch.
Rum, glad to know I am not the only basket case. No crying yet, but lots of worry.
SD the laborist system is why I didn't go with Penn. It sounds like you are having a great experience there which is awesome. In retrospect it's probably where I should have gone as it's so much more convenient. Still I think we're happy where we are at this point, so I'll probably stick with it.
