Christmas Party.....What to bring?

Hi guys,

so my hubby's friends are having a "get together" at his friends house, and I am not quite sure what to bring.  Any suggestions?  Should I bring a bottle of wine, and if so do I give it to the wife (its her house).... or should I just bring a dessert, or an appetizer?

Never done this before

Also, no invitation was sent they just spread the word. So should I wear a dress or like jeans and a nice top? Not sure how dressy these things are.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

A

  • You could always wear a festive, nice top. I like bringing desserts, especially this time of year when you can show off baking skills :)

  • I think jeans and a nice top would be great, especially one with a little sparkle. I would actually suggest NOT bringing something sweet-mostly because everyone else will and people will appreciate something that is not sweet. What about a meat, cheese, and crackers tray? Or some kind of dip in a crockpot?

If the party isn't potluck, then a nice bottle of wine or flowers (maybe a Christmas arrangement?) are usually appreciated.

  • Unless you were asked to bring a food; I wouldn't. If this person is throwing a get together, then they should have already gotten the food situation down. But my mom also always told me to never arrive anywhere empty handed, so I would bring a bottle of wine.

For a ''get together'' I would just wear a nice pair of jeans, a dressy sweater and heels.

  • I agree with the desserts idea.  I usually bring a dessert unless the hostess asks us to bring something else.  When I host I usually expect people will bring desserts so I don't make as many.

The party sounds pretty low key, so I'd wear a nice top and dark jeans.

Yep, this.  Nice jeans with a cute top or sweater.  I usually bring fancy seasonal beer but we and our circles are big microbrew fans.
