Good Macbook Pro tutorial/YT video/instructional book?

I have always been a PC user but this year I purchased the iPad 2 (love it) and the iPhone 4S (love it as well).

I know DH got me a Macbook Pro for Christmas, and while I am excited, I don't really know the full capabilities/functions of a Macbook.

Are there any good help tutorials or books I can read about them? I also know he installed Microsoft Office and iWorks on it as well. NO idea the difference- would like to learn about this too.

I am excited yet feel so clueless how to work this machine....

  • It's more an operating system thing than a hardware thing. Check out the OS X Lion Missing Manual from David Pogue. He's a great writer and will make things easy for you. What a great gift! You'll love it. It's really not that hard to learn.

  • I have heard good things about the Missing Manual that PP mentioned.  I think that Macs and PCs have become a lot more similar in recent years, so it isn't as much of a transition as you might expect.  As for Office vs iWork: Office includes programs like Word, Powerpoint, and Excel; they are pretty similar to their PC counterparts, and the files are interchangeable (sometimes there are some minor compatibility issues).  iWork is a suite of programs that do the same types of things (word processing, presentations, and spreadsheets) but the files are not PC-compatible.  For that reason, Office is used a lot more than iWork.  It may not necessarily be the better option, but it's easier to deal with.

Awesome gift.  If you wind up not liking it (doubtful), you can send it my way :)

  • iwork files are compatible you just have to convert them Its not that hard there is an option under the file message to save as a word document, pdf, and other document file types. If you have any questions feel free to private message me. We are big computer people and we use both PCs and macs here but I def prefer my mac for ease of use and longevity.

Yes, you're right, but I still find it to be a pain in the butt.  Just like converting Open Office files.  It's not hard, but if you forget it's a pain.  And I have found issues with the converted files, though that sometimes happens with Office from Mac to/from PC too.
