? about house rentals

Is the norm for the renter to pay the deposit and first months rent up front?  Or is first months rent due after living there a month?  Thanks!

Re: ? about house rentals

  • When we rented we paid our fist month's rent plus a deposit(which equalled one months's rent).

ETA:  And yes it was upfront, though we worked it out to pay the deposit in two equal chunks with the first and second month's rent.  Make sense?

  • When I had my house leased, we had the renters pay 1 full month upfront plus their deposit when moving in - although we split the pet part up between 3 months - but since they moved in half way through the month, on the 1st, they just paid the prorated partial month for the 1/2 month they lived there prior.

  • We had to to pay our first month's rent up front and were able to split the deposit over the first three months rent.
  • Every place I've ever rented deposit and first month are due upfront. It's to insure you can pay and if you bail at least they have the deposit money.
