Red Velvet Trifle- Help me get creative!
So I've seen recipes for a red velvet trifle online... How would you make it?
Red Velvet Cake
Whip Cream
.....
What else?? Pudding? (What Kind) Candy?? (What Kind) Cookie?? (What Kind)
I would love to hear everyones ideas!
Re: Red Velvet Trifle- Help me get creative!
When I make a standard trifle, I have a sponge layer, fruit and jelly, custard and then whipped cream, decorated with sliced almonds.
So I guess I would replace the sponge with red velvet cake. Use red fruits like strawberries and raspberries. And maybe replace the custard with chocolate mousse because I think the red, brown and white of the cream would look nice together.
I might skip the jelly altogether. I think the yellow of custard could look nice too, if you think the flavour of custard would work with velvet cake.
What flavour is red velvet cake normally? I've never had it.
You are missing out. It's a little chocolatey, very moist and rich.
Maybe do a layer of cream cheese frosting in the trifle instead of custard? Butter cream or cream cheese frosting is what I've always had on RVC. I would layer in chopped walnuts. I'd hesitate to do fruit. And maybe dust it with cocoa powder on top?
Yeah it's just not a cake flavour you generally see in NZ. My husband is really keen to try it, and I keep meaning to find a recipe to make for him.
