  • The ignorance of people surrounding vaccinations is astounding.

I had a lady at work tell me I probably harmed my fetus by getting the flu shot.

  • While underdiagnosis could be at play, if the Vitamin D3- Autism hypothesis has merit, it is likely we would see fewer cases of Autism in the Amish as they spend much more time outside than the average American.

They don't have college level writing skills? Must be the German. Not that they don't generally educate past 8th grade.

no, no DrWho, they're SMARTER than us.  can't you read?

Not as well as I could have if I'd been raised Amish.   Thanks Mom.

And if it's a vitamin D/sunlight thing, get my freakishly pale ass a communication board, stat.

They probably have a higher rate of buggy deaths, though.

Eating organic will probably end up killing you by buggy.  Yay for correlations!

Actually, this is true. Buggies often get run off the road, especially at night, since they only have orange safety triangles vs. lights and whatnot.

Being Amish = increased chance of death in a buggy!

?  Do you have a source for this - any trials?

  • I am not aware of any completed trials, but here is a good Scientific American article describing the issue from 2009: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=vitamin-d-and-autism

I live in an area described in the article, and have heard this potential connection discussed often in both the scientific and medical communities.

  • There are more than three cases of ASD in the Amish.  There is also down syndrome and other disorders among the Amish.  Please research before posting such fallible information. Ellis Van Creveld Syndrome is also predominately of the Amish.

  • My personal experience has been that many Amish do vaccinate their children. I'm sure it varies by community though.

I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love.
  • Clearly the author had never spoken to the Amish let alone studied them.
