In-laws are coming for the first Christmas at our house (we invited them for brunch and they invited themselves for Christmas Eve dinner so we now have two meals). This will be for 6 adults and my son (who luckily eats everything).
Christmas Eve Dinner:
London Broil (with either horseradish sauce or blue cheese butter)
French bread/rolls
Macaroni & Cheese (MIL ordered for us so I don't have to do anything and it is def on the menu)
Broccoli or Caesar salad (my vote of candied carrots was rejected)
Brunch:
Ham (also already ordered by MIL)
Quiche, made ahead of time and reheated
Oven roasted and seasoned potatoes
Banana Bread or whatever quick bread my SIL brings
Soft rolls (with cheese and mustard in case folks want ham sandwhiches)
Do I need fruit?
Thanks!! You can assume copious amounts of booze and coffee as well.
Re: Critique my menus..
I would do the broccoli AND the caesar salad.
What kind of quiche? Make sure it's not ham. I'd do a fruit salad (and I don't much like fruit). Keep it simple though- grapefruit, oranges, pineapple, maybe some marashino cherries for color.
Your Christmas Eve menu sounds perfect (with Broccoli). I think the Caesar dressing, blue cheese butter AND the mac & cheese will just be toooooo much creaminess (IMO)! The broccoli will add a nice refreshing touch to the meal.
As for the brunch, i would also add some fruit, maybe keep-it-simple with just oranges and slice strawberries..

My read shelf:

can anything be worked into leftovers for the brunch
The only problem with this is if there isn't leftovers. We made a mound of mashed potatoes for a family dinner hoping to have potato pancakes for breakfast. There weren't enough.
