Stockings

How do you hang yours?

We used to have cute stocking hangers but I can't seem to locate them. When we moved in here, there were nails up from previous owners so we used those last year. I've also seen some used screw-in hook under the mantle, but I wonder if they might lose their gripping if removed and replaced each year....especially since our stockings tend to get *loaded* down.

Re: Stockings

  • We had nails in the mantle in our last house.

This house DH built a gorgeous mantle for us & we don't want to put nails in it, so stockings have not gone up yet.

  • We have stocking hangars on our mantle. We don't load up the stockings though so they hold just fine. My parents put tacks under the mantle growing up and I was surprised at how well they held the heavier stockings.

  • I bought mantle clips from Target but our mantle is too thick. I don't like the things that just sit on top, because I can see someone pulling the stocking down and that thing on her head. Our mantle is brick, and rrr doesn't want to drill into it.

For now, none of our stockings are hanging, especially as mine is only 1/3 knit. It's a good thing we won't be here for Christmas!

  • We use stocking holders. We don't put anything in them when they are hanging. On Christmas morning, they are all on the floor next to the pile of presents/Santa gifts.

Stockings are pretty much the best part about Christmas presents. Although now that I had to fill four this year, I realize how much work/money went into our stockings every year. Thanks, Mom.

hmm. Good idea. Never thought of that as ours were always hanging.

  • We don't have a fireplace at all, so this was a small delimna this year as to where to put the stockings.  Eventually we decided to skip it this year.  As a kid, my parents hung our stockings on nails, but on Christmas morning they were resting on the hearth filled with goodies.  I assume that we will use stocking hangers on our 1/2 wall next year to display, and on Christmas morning we will set the stockings with the pile of gifts by the tree.

     This.

  • we have stocking hangers that go on the mantle with hooks that hang over the edge. they're "presents" and are pretty heavy so they hold everything pretty well.

  • We use the 3M large removable hooks on the mantle.  And then decorate the mantle so you don't see them and also have the stocking holder closer to each hook to give it an appearance that it's holding the stocking.  My fear of using the stocking holder is that one of the kids will pull on the stocking and it'll come falling on their head and each one is pretty heavy.

  • I use stonelike stocking hangers and we have a half wall, that acts as our mantle!

My baby isn't yet tall enough to pull on the stockings. I gave big brother a stern warning about the stocking holders. They have been up for several weeks, and he has only pulled one down once. Our holders are heavy but not super heavy. They're from Target, and I suspect pricier ones would be heavier and thus more dangerous. I wouldn't put anything in the stockings because these would fall down.

  • We have stocking holders on the mantle. Mine fell and it broke in half last year but I just have it propped up there.  Eh, it still works.

  • Our mantle has nails in it.  We always had nails in ours at home, but at the new house my mom has some of those cute little stocking holders.
