My neighbors...

I've obviously never lived in suburbia before! I'm floored by how nice my neighbors are! When we moved here I was left unpacking a 26 foot moving truck by myself... in a snow storm. Some of the neighborhood women came over and helped me unload. I was so thankful! I have no idea how I could have done that by myself. Several neighbors have stopped by to introduce themselves and say hi. One neighbor brought us a pie at Thanksgiving. Another brought us soup. Then later she brought a collection of homemade fudge, candies, and cookies.

See? They're awesome.

I have NO idea what to do in return for them being so nice. I'm making fudge right now. I'll make cookies later. I'm thinking of taking each neighbor some fudge and cookies along with a hand written Christmas card but I feel like I should do more.

Re: My neighbors...

  • I've never lived in a neighborhood like that, even when I lived in the burbs. I wish the people in my apartment building were friendlier. Probably my main complaint about living here.
  • Um, yeah. . . my suburban neighborhood is more like pull into your garage, close the door before you get out of your car and never be in front. In 2 years we have met one neighbor. And we get really weird looks when we play in front, which we do pretty regularly since our house faces south and the backyard is a frozen wasteland. I wish it was friendlier!

  • My neighborhood is like that and I felt the same way as you when we first arrived.  I think the cookies and fudge are more than enough, because it is the thought that really matters.  You recognizing their efforts and appreciating it will mean a lot, and hopefully you will be in a position to help them out sometimes too.  That is what is so great about living in such an awesome neighborhood.
  • That's awesome that you have such nice neighbors! We lucked out in our first house back in NH and again this time. I love that our circle is so friendly. I'd say just doing the fudge, cookies and a card is plenty.
  • Thanks! Hopefully I'll finish putting them together and hand them out tomorrow with SO. They are all SO nice.

I'll admit that I was a little freaked out at first though. I'm from California and am naturally a little, uh, paranoid (to put it nicely). I was totally convinced they were trying to scam me somehow. lol.

  • My new neighborhood is friendly like yours. I'm sort of taken aback because we aren't the most outgoing people but we're friendly. In old neighborhood we pretty much knew the people next door to us but no one else. One of them was because my DH worked in the same building as them.

  • I agree, I think fudge and cookies are more than enough and it is the thought that counts. I wish I lived in a neighborhood like that! Ha.
