Sewing classes?

Hey all,

I don't know how to sew anything and would really like to learn. I don't know even basic sewing  like sewing a button. Does anyone know  about sewing classes in the Central Phoenix area?

Thanks!

Re: Sewing classes?

  • Maybe check out Joann's and see if they offer a class.  I know I have seen people sewing in the one by Arrowhead but I am not sure if it was a class or if they just sue their machines. HTH

  • I took one at Joann's and every once in a while they offer their classes 1/2 off. I did need to bring a sewing machine I think though...but I had just gotten it and had no idea how to use it. They taught me everything about getting started: from threading the bobbin and machine to the different stitches and the basics of patterns.

  • I took a sewing class at Joann's over the summer, and honestly, it was awful. I didn't need to bring my own sewing machine, they had ones you can use. I signed up for 3 classes and ended up cancelling the other 2 right after my 1st class. I think it was just my teacher though, she was horrible. Other than that, I don't know of anywhere. Sorry!

  • Thank you! Glad to have a place to start!
  • I have a friend who takes sewing classes at GCC.  They have a few different class options that I know of - maybe the other community colleges also offer them?
  • I'm completely self-taught at sewing, and honestly I suck. But my sister took a sewing class at MCC a few years ago and LOVED it. She had to bring her machine to every class, which was a pain but good because she got to know her machine well. She learned a ton, and is a way better seamstress than me!
