restaurant.com?

has anyone ever used this site? they are having a special for $1 for $25 gift cards. the restaurant choices are random but i did find one for the restaurant where my book club goes. i just don't understand all the restrictions like "cash only". why do they say that if you have a gift card? does that mean for the balnace after the card? and does that mean you can't pay with more than one gift card? because as i see it i could buy four gift cards for $4 and pay for the whole book club's dinner. but the restrictions are so strange that i am skeptical.

Re: restaurant.com?

  • I've used them and dealt with them plenty. Basically, the balance after the gift card is due in cash. So, if dinner is $50, you have to pay $25 in cash.. and the tip in cash. Alternately, if your dinner comes to $18, your gift card is gone, and you're still expected to pay the tip in cash (no $7 credit). Also, it's only one gift card per table/transaction. I saw a lot of these while I was waitressing. The only annoying part is that people would only tip on the remaining balance. Tip your server on the full amount! (my inner waitress speaking)
  • oh yeah totally. former waitress here, too. i got stiffed plenty a time from people who thought well 15% of zero is zero, right? so annoying! we usually tip on the original total and then some. thanks for the advice. i probably will skip it this time but i have a couple of free ones coming my way through a promo with my printing company so i will try it out then instead.
