I have used BareMinerals makeup for a few years. I really like it in that it feels very light (I am not a big makeup person), and it does a pretty decent job of coverage and not looking all gross and fake.
The problem is that, especially in the winter, I get very dry skin on my face, and it is made much, much worse by BareMinerals. So it looks pretty bad, I think. My T-zone is all flaky.
I try to use a facial moisturizer when I remember, under my makeup, but it doesn't seem to help. I used to use the yellow Clinique Dramatically Different moisturizer but it ceased being effective. So then I tried just a really basic store brand facial moisturizer. Nope, doesn't work.
Do I need a different makeup? Different moisturizer? Some other product that I am unaware of?
I don't mind spending a little money.... less is better of course. I just dread spending $30 on a moisturizer and it not being any better than store brand.
Advice?
Re: BareMinerals makeup... dry skin... advice needed.
well you answered the question, which is better moisturizer. Go to Sepora have nthem give you a couple samples to try before you buy.
also, apply the BM right after you apply moisturizer, when it is still fairly wet. It will help with flaking
I have super dry skin myself and I've started using Argan oil before the Clinique moisturizer. I use just a bit of both and it's so far so good. I found it at Sephora.

This. I use a moisturizer in the am right before I put on bare minerals and noticed flaking as well. I keep a small jar of moisture surge in my purse and apply it during the day... It is amazing!!
I love Clinique Moisture Surge too. I also apply a 2nd moisturizer on top as well. Plus for dry skin make sure you are exfoliating at least a few times a week. The good thing about Moisture Surge is that you can use it as a mask as well. Also try spritzing with Mac Fix + or something similar after you have finished applying. It helps set and makes things look less powdery.
I have dry skin and am not a fan of powdery foundations. I love liquid foundations.
I have super dry sensitive skin and the advisor at Sephora told me that Bare Minerals isn't great for our skin type...especially in the winter. She recommended Nars sheer glow foundation (good coverage, but light feeling) and I've been using it for a few weeks and really like it. I use a face primer before the foundation as well.
Also, I started using a bunch of new skin care products last year and it made all the difference with my dry skin. I start with Philosophy Hope is not enough serum, then my eye cream, then either Hope in a Jar for dry/sensitive skin or First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. I let that all dry before doing my makeup. Right now I'm using Korres Quercetin & Oak primer.
However, here's a makeup line that's the equivalent to BareMinerals but a lot cheaper. It's hypoallergenic just like BM & the same exact colors & ingredients are used. This mineral line gives you 30g of makeup for $11.99 & BareMinerals makeup is 16g for around $35. Go to www.etsy.com/shop/MineralFace it's all natural, organic mineral makeup for less! If you've used BareMinerals, you will love this one, as it's the EXACT same but 2x the makeup for 1/3 the cost!
