What do you think (and merry Christmas)?

My father is obsessed with Starbucks.  He has two or three a day.  They are open today on Christmas.  I said he shouldnt go because today is a family day and if people don't go, they won't open next year because "remember we were open last Christmas and no one came?  Let's just close this year."

He said you should go and support the people working there.  Total bullshoot answer.  He just wants Starbucks.

What do you think?  Should they be open today?

Re: What do you think (and merry Christmas)?

  • I think there are a lot of non-Christians who probably want Starbucks to stay open, as well as people who just want their caffeine fix after staying up late playing Santa and being woken up by little kids at 6am.

Regardless, it's the company's decision whether or not to stay open, and I would imagine that they get plenty of business to justify that decision.   I don't think you need to go just to "support the employees" who work there.   However, it might be nice to support a bunch of other people who have to work today (police, firefighters, hospital staff, the military, etc) by buying them a nice cup of Starbucks.

  • Not everyone celebrates Christmas, so I don't see why they can't be open. But if he is going to support the employees, he should show up with a nice tip or something for the employees!

This is true, but I'm betting that the majority of employees that are forced to work on Christmas Day do. I feel so bad for anyone that has to work on holidays that are meant to be for families. I went to Walmart on Christmas Day last year because my mom was sick and needed some medicine, and I bought a candy bar for the people that checked me out.

  • I always closed on Christmas Eve and worked Christmas day when I worked at Dunkin Donuts. It was always my favorite day of the year because between time and a half, awesome tips, and a gift from the franchisee it was the only day the year it was worth working there ;) I just talked to Mom and she said when they went to get the paper this morning they were shocked how many people were there getting goodies for breakfast. There's a lot of demand, so I'm not surprised they're open.

Them being open today is up to them. I've gone to Starbucks on Christmas day and it was nice to be able to get a decent cup of coffee and/or get away for a few minutes.

  • Like your father, there are a zillion others that are obsessed with Starbucks and that want it on Christmas Day.  It would be dumb for them to close.
