Suggestions for paint

My daughter wants a purple room, and I'd love to paint her room for her bday in March.  It can be pretty cold here in the Northeast, so I don't see us being able to open windows to air things out.

That being said - can you recommend any good eco-friendly paints?  I haven't done any research on paint yet, so I'm just looking for some recommendations.  My priority is something that is safe for our little girls, probably starting with minimal or safer fumes.  Since it is one room, I can probably splurge a little.

Thanks so much!

Re: Suggestions for paint

  • I've used and like AFM Safecoat, Yolo and Mythic which are zero-VOC. I think I remember reading somewhere that some stores will tint them with colorants that have VOC's so be sure you ask at the store. I'm extremely sensitive to fumes (light headed, nausea, headache) and I've used the AFM and Yolo in the winter with the windows shut and haven't had any problems. I do remember that AFM had a slight odor when it was wet but it wasn't bad at all. I don't remember any fumes with Yolo or Mythic.

I think they cover and hold up just as well as Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore paints.
