Wedding dress cleaners?

I'm sure this has been asked and answered a million times, but the search function on here is le suck. Suggestions for wedding dress cleaners locally? And what is the price range. After long last, I need to get my dress cleaned to see if they can get it clean enough to sell. It's time to clean out the guest room closet to make room for baby!

Re: Wedding dress cleaners?

  • I got all of my dress' alterations and steam cleanings done at Alfred Angelo (location near the domain). The seamstress' name is Victoria and she is awesome and very careful with your dress. I remember the steaming was only about $60 but if you have major stains or anything like that, she might have to quote you a price. They'd probably give you a fair price and they also do dress preservation & package it where it's easier to store for about $100 I think.

  • I took mine to an actual cleaners (dry cleaners).  I went to the one off far west just past the heb/post office on the left, right before you get to Muchison Middle School.

They did a great job cleaning it up.  I ended up getting my preserved as well.

  • Does anyone know what the timeframe is for cleaning? I got married quite a while ago (3.5 years) and never got around to cleaning mine.
  • Hands down the best place locally is Austin's Cleaners on McNeil.  The price ranges anywhere from $75 to $130 depending on fabric, beading, and what kind of stains they are dealing with.  We use them exclusively at my shop and have never had a problem.

PP mentioned steaming.....this is a process to get the wrinkles out, not to actually clean the dress.  They may be spot treating stains at that time, but I don't recommend that at all - the cleaner itself can water spot, even showing up years later.  It's best to dry clean the entire gown.

IMHO, preservation isn't necessary, and doesn't do anything that a nice fabric garment bag won't do.  The only perk would be that it is folded up in a box, which may be easier for you to store (vs. hanging it up).  Plus, you typically have to ship it off to be preserved, and I have heard many a horror story about that.  If you want it done, I believe that Austin's Cleaners does it in-house.

You can have the gown cleaned anytime after the wedding (mine was 2 years ago and I STILL haven't done it!!!) but they may not have as much success with any stains as they may have had earlier.

When you drop it off, you should point out any stains, have them mark them, and let them know what the stain is, if you know.

  • I second Austin Cleaners.  I take my other dry cleaning there.  They did a great job on my dress which was filthy from a really fun reception and sat in a closet for months.

  • Thanks, ladies! I think I'll try Austin Cleaners. Hopefully they're open tomorrow since it's quite a trek for me. It's been over 2 years since the wedding, but if they can get it clean, I'll see if I can sell it to recover the cost and then some.
