Re: Is this a SUV or station wagon?

  • when i drove a saturn vue it was considered an suv. but the frame and chassis system were on a stationwagon frame, so somewhere on the insurance forms it was actually called a "wagon".

  • Neither. It's a CUV (crossover between the 2).

No, that is a made up term IMO.  It is just a rebranding of "station wagon."  So if you think it is a crossover, vote station wagon.

  • i voted SUV but agree it is a crossover. wagons sit lower to the ground although the chassis IS the same for a crossover.  i can slide into a wagon. i have to step up into a crossover and hop out of it.  i have to climb into an SUV. and climb out of it using side rails.

By that logic, my MDX is a crossover  It sits rather low to the ground and has no side rails.  So I am not sure that height works as the qualifier.

autoweek.com, edmunds.com, trucktrend.com, and all-knowing wikipedia, lol, all refer to the mdx as a crossover.  my mom used to be a marketing manager for toyota and said it was primarily based on the chassis but the height issue is a big part of marketing for baby boomers and moms, a significant target market for crossovers of varying performance levels.

  • What kind of vehicle is it? I mean, make and model?
  • I believe they call it a "crossover" (between SUV and station wagon).  If your insurance form only has either/or, I'd say station wagon.
  • According to the manufacturer, it's an SUV.

  • I voted SUV. A friend has the same vehicle, just a different color. She wouldn't be caught driving a station wagon!
