holiday weekend - how was yours?
Best/worst moments/gifts/etc?
Mr. Bang and I had our Christmas on Friday night because it was the only time we were going to be alone. It was really sweet and quiet and lovely. The rest of the weekend was spent back and forth between families (his parents and mine live about 2 miles apart), and it all went very well. His parents even got me a stocking with my name on it, so sweet! I was definitely not ready for work to start again today.
Re: holiday weekend - how was yours?
It was pretty good. I got four new cookbooks, so I'm stoked. I felt the gifts that we gave were only "okay" so that kind of stunk.
I couldn't sleep on Christmas Eve because I'm creating drama in my head around BIL's wedding. I've been pretty meloncholy, so I think that at the time Christmas was great, but now I'm kind of "blah."
I'm going to be completely materialistic and just tell you what Santa brought me!
Got an awesome bear hat from H (see below).
H is also letting me pick out the sewing machine of my choosing. It was a VERY Gilmore girls Christmas. I got a Luke's Diner mug (from our very own ESD), a Black, White & Read Bookstore mug (from H), a Luke's Diner t-shirt (from mom), a Dragonfly Inn t-shirt (from H) and the complete series from stepmom (the one in the pretty white box. I own all the seasons separately... but they're starting to skip because of how often I watch them).
My ILs paid off my library fines (they totaled $95.85!) and did this cute thing where they faked a letter from Lt. Bookman (Seinfeld fans would get this reference). It was hilarious. I even got a plaque that said "Imoan can read again!". LOL! Apparently I'm now famous at my local library. The other stuff I got from them was pretty practical because we're going on the cruise in May.

My favorite gift came in a small box (sorry the picture is so huge and not very clear):
OMG Morty! He did it! How did he do it?
It's gorgeous!

Thank you...it sparkles so much...not huge in size, but huge on sparkle! I can't stop staring at it.
It was in my stocking on Christmas morning. I took the box out of my stocking (it was toward the bottom so I had no idea what I was grabbing) and I couldn't read what the box said because I didn't have my glasses on. I opened it and it didn't register in my mind what it actually was...so I looked at the box again, looked at him and asked him if it was THE ring. He laughed and said it was. He took it out of the box, put it on my finger and asked me if I would be his wife. My son was confused because he had no idea what was going on, but he finally caught on and we are all very happy.
Some of the best proposals aren't grand or dramatic... I think that's perfect (and this is coming from someone who had an elaborate and romantic proposal). You were sitting home on Christmas morning... and it was about family! I love it!

MORT!!! Congratulations!!! It's beautiful
Imoan, I love that hat!
My fav. gifts were all of them, hehe, my family and Mr. Bang's family were so kind. A new yoga mat, boots, hand-knit super soft cowl, shoes, a gift card to my hair salon, and two awesome stockings - one from my parents and one from Mr. Bang's. Mr. Bang gave me a beautiful pair of earrings, a computer battery (mine stopped charging over a year ago), a book I wanted and some Smartwools and we are going out to dinner as a gift to each other. I loved giving everyone their gifts. The little dude opened his present (2 adorable shirts ... not the most exciting for him but he needs them) and yelled, "MY SHIRT!" His fun gift is a piggy bank and "monies" for his birthday. I cannot wait to see him open it - he loves my piggy bank and always wants to play with it. I've been collecting change for him for months, lol.
Thank you for the congratulations. I was reluctant to post about it because I figured I'd get crap about making a big mistake, etc.
Sorry to hijack your thread with my news.
Congrats Morty!
Santa was very good to me
DH had the pearls he bought for me in China made into earrings. They are enormous black pearls and they look beautiful mounted now. I also got an iphone 4S and a Kindle Fire, and a paint sprayer. My BIL and SIL got me a Dremel, which I'm super excited about. I now have all the tools to finish all my furniture projects.
My MIL got me an Ove Glove. Wtf?
Christmas was great, except I was sick so I couldn't hold my niece.
Oooh, these sound gorgeous! I love black pearls.
I'm VERY adorable!

Congrats! Your ring is gorgeous!
My favorite gift was the heart rate monitor watch my H got me. Doesn't need a chest strap so I can track heart rate doing things like taking care of the horses when I don't want to be all work out geared out. Then his uncle got me a polar HRM with a chest strap for when I work out. Very good stuff. They don't understand why I'm so excited to have two.
Still haven't done Christmas with my family, but I'm hoping for boots. I'm tired of shovelling snow in my snowboarding boots... they're not very mobile.
(1) MORTY congrats!!
(2) Imoan you are so cute I want to stuff you in a little sack and carry you around with me so I can reach in and pet you whenever I want.
(3) We had a really nice Christmas. Quite simple and a lot of fun. We had my brother/SIL/niece over on Christmas Day. I made dinner of ham with mustard sauce, mashed potatoes, corn pudding, and broccoli au gratin. My only beef is I only got one gift (from DH obv), but we had lots of fun watching Baby Fuss open his gifts, and watching the little cousins play together was a treat.
Ours was... weird. lol. We had some cupcakes for Joaquin on her birthday and she loved them. On Christmas we went over to MIL's house in the morning, with the plan to go back later, but she wasn't feeling well so we stayed home & had mac & cheese... but had to go back to get all the food because she & her sister went to the beach on the 26th. It was just odd.
Joaquin's current favorite toy is still the tag on her sweatpants. My favorite gift was the Keurig H got me, yay!
Pocket Imoan... everyone should have one!

You totally are! Did your H like his sweatshirt?
Congratulations, Morty!
And imoan, you really are adorable. As are you, Interro. I love hearing you talk about Mr. Bang and the little dude.
We had a quiet Christmas at home followed by dinner at a dear friend's house. I got new hiking shoes (yay!!) and a cookbook I wanted. DH also got me a bunch of cake decorating tools, which should be fun to play with.
Awe, Interrobang-- that sounds like a lovely xmas with your husband.
Christmas eve we went to see my side of the family. You could have sworn it was some sort of celebrity when Abby was brought in. Everyone just wanted to love on her. It was cute, but a little overwhelming. My dad got her the most adorable little "Santa" pants-suit thing. It was that plush velvet stuff with fur trimmed hoodie. I tried to get pictures in it, but of course that was the time that Abby decided to grace us all with a diaper blow out. I guess the car ride stimulated her lol. So Grandpa's gift was a bit ruined, but it all came out in the wash.
Christmas we spent just the three of us (and all the animals) cozy at home with our Christmas tree. H & I didn't get each other gifts this year (primarily because we have been doting on Abby lol), but we did fix a nice meal together with candlelight once Abby went out for a nap. It was very pleasant.
Yesterday (Monday) the IL's came over, and it was lovely. Grandmama (MIL) even bought a truckload of gifts for Abby. They spent time playing with her and talking to her while we cooked dinner. I swear I'm solid now that I've given them Loin Fruit (Imoan- GG reference! haha).
It sounds super cheesy and shizz, but I feel like the best gift I got was a first xmas with my baby, and family without any drama. The ONLY thing I wish had gone differently is that I could have figured out where my brother made it off to. I am a little worried because he didn't answer the door. His boyfriend swears he's fine and that he was just sleeping. He got hit by a car around the time Abby was born and his health has been less than stellar since then. He doesn't have insurance, but is suing the guy that hit him on his bike on his way to work. So the money awarded is helping him recover medically. I just worry that he feels demoralized being laid up.
He sent me a text picture on his phone of him all on the couch with the pie that I made. So at least I know his boyfriend isn't putting me on. Maybe we'll cart ourselves over there for New Years. I can cook up a storm and hang out. All in all a great Christmas though.
I hope that all of you had a loving, warm and snugglie xmas/Hanukkah/Yule/Holiday.
YAY!!! HUGE CONGRATS!
He LOVED it!

Aww, Betty, yay for Abby's first Christmas! I hope your brother is doing okay.
Thanks! I hope he is too. He tends to hermit it up when he isn't feeling well, so getting the straight story from him is hard. He just swears he's fine and not to worry.
Congratulations!! It's a beautiful ring and I hope you and he are very happy together.
We had a great Christmas weekend. My niece was home, so watching her open presents was so fun. As she was opening one of her last presents she said "Santa bought me a billion presents!"
I got so many great gifts. I love that I finally got a crockpot with a timer on it. I also got some fun stuff to start scrapbooking with.
It was the first time me and BF were together for Christmas Day, so that was pretty great!
I just got back from Florida today. It was a whirlwind trip. BF met my family for the first time and I met his. Meeting his parents probably deserves a separate post once I get my thoughts together. In some respects it went well, and in others it didn't. I got to visit a part of Florida I had never seen before and, for the first time, found myself missing my home state. We spent a good part of Tuesday at the beach with some margaritas. The weather was PERFECT. His parents gave us waaaaay too much stuff, especially considering they had never even met me before. I ended up sneaking half the gift cards into BF's wallet. Hopefully he won't catch on, LOL.
Probably the best part of the trip was sitting on the plane home. BF leaned over and told me he missed my stinky dogs and that home was now wherever the four of us were. My heart went mush.
We both don't go back to work until after the New Year. I'm looking forward to some down time. I have a condo to clean out and a career plan to craft. We're having some friends over for dinner on Friday night, so I also have a menu to plan. It'll be my last hurrah before I refocus on my diet and exercise.
P.S. Congrats Mort!
