Office Funny

So I've been at my new job for just about 2 months now, and about 2 weeks after I got hired I started getting weird emails about IT tickets and requests for access/password resets to stuff that I never made. It was driving me crazy for a few weeks because no one knew what was going on.

Until we found out that another person with the same name as mine (different middle name, but first and last are exact) was hired in another part of the company on the opposite coast 2 weeks after me.

We got all the IT stuff worked out and have reminded people there are 2 of us so try to get the email right etc etc, but it still happens. She just got an email meant for me about fire alarm testing here today and forwarded it to me... 5 minutes too late. And apparently her parents sent me an email full of family pictures, but it must have gone straight to my junkmail and been deleted because I never saw it.

At first I was annoyed about the whole thing but now we laugh about it. Our name isn't really all that common either, I think there are 20 people in the whole US with the same First/Last combo, so for 2 of us to work for the same company is pretty crazy.

Theeeeeeee end.

Re: Office Funny

  • I had that happen when I was a summer intern at a a corporation. I was working in the HR offices, doing mostly data collections. One day I received an email with some information about a terminated employee, and all these legal procedures. I sent it to my boss and we assumed it must have been sent to me by mistake. We later found out (after a few more weird emails) that there had been an HR manager at a different location (but with the same company) that had my same first and last name. She had recently left the company before I was hired, and since the email addresses were first initial, and last name, I ended up with her old email address.
  • At my last job I had that issue. We had the same first name and similar last names (mine has one more letter than hers). We got to know each other after dealing with that for a few years. Then when I got married, there were 4 other people in the company with the same first and last name as me, and one other with the same middle name. After I got married, I sent all of the an email introducing myself.
