Anyone have this? I've been told by my dentist and didn't think much of it. Last Thur, I noticed a couple of my taste buds were dark red like blood blisters. Sure enough, I ate lunch and my tongue gushed blood. It stopped with pressure and the next day it seemed like they were healing until I ate something crunchy and it happened again.
Now it looks like a big, cream-colored bump on my tongue and I thought that meant it was healing, but it's been there since Saturday. I read online that geographic tongue can get worse during pregnancy, so I'm wondering if that's it, or I read artificial coloring sets it off and I've been eating m&ms like nobody's business and never eat stuff with food coloring.
Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this, especially during pregnancy. Not sure when it's time to see a dr or dentist? or if just laying off the m&ms will help?
Re: Geographic tongue???
I think I have it, though I've never been diagnosed with it. My tongue tends to get really irritated (red, raised patches that hurt) when I eat really salty or hard/cruncy foods. But it's never bled. I just try to be easy on my tongue with soft, bland foods when it gets like that.
According to this site: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0002044/, there's really no treatment needed for it.
Against my better judgment, I just google imaged it. I'm eating lunch at the moment.
I have it and yes it's worse during pregnancy. Not much they can do. Once you give birth, it will get better.
Sometimes, it gets irritated, so I eat soft, non acidic foods for a meal or two and it gets better after that.
That sounds sucky (is that a word)? I hope it heals fast. I totally thought this post was about traveling languages or something, I've never heard of geographic tongue.
