NYD Dinner Menu - will this work?

We're having a small dinner party (my parents, aunt/uncle, sister and her husband).  Here?s the menu I?m thinking:

Appetizers ?

Baked Spinach Dip Mini Bread Bowls

Crackers and Cheese Plate

Main ?

Pork Tenderloin

Sauerkraut (mom is making)

Hashbrown Potato Casserole

Onion Rice

Steamed Broccoli (but open for other veggie ideas?.)

Dessert ?

Poundcake topped with raspberry jam and scoop of vanilla ice cream ? with homemade hot fudge

I?m trying to keep things kind of light considering all of the ?heavy? food consumed over the holiday.  Am I missing anything?  Anything I should add?

Re: NYD Dinner Menu - will this work?

  • I assume the spinach dip has a creamy base?  I'd probably add a veg tray here to help balance some of the dinner.

How are you doing the tenderloin?  I usually salt and pepper and pour the kraut on top.  Then crock pot or bake it.  I might do some celery seed or fennel seed if I have it.  I'd just make sure hwatever flavor will meld with the kraut.  I love a hashbrown casserole, but I'm so used to having mashed potatoes with my pork and kraut I'd raise an eyebrow.  I don't know what onion rice is.  You might just add a salad for a veg.

Dessert sounds like a good mix.  I'd just make sure to give people the option of combos.

  • Thanks for the idea of the veggie tray - I wasn't sure if it was too much!

For the pork tenderloin, we have a favorite marinade that we use (soy sauce, worcestershire, sherry, and pineapple juice) and then on the grill.  We reserve some of the marinade and boil to use as a sauce.

I might do some cookies with dessert to add another option to the mix.

Thanks for all of your suggestions!

  • that sounds very well rounded and yummy to me... I would just be disappointed not to have seafood...can you add shrimp cocktail to appetizers to make me happy
  • I think it sounds pretty good!  I agree with 6 that a veggie tray would be a nice addition.  Have a good time :)
