Merida, Mexico

I have a 32 hour layover there on the 29th Our crew hotel is very nice and I think is located downtown.  Any ideas on what to do and how safe it is to walk around?

Re: Merida, Mexico

  • I was there about a year ago and it was very nice. I was only there one night and it was at the end of a long trip, so we didn't do that much--mainly just did a lot of walking around. The main plaza is very nice and often has live music in the evenings. We also walked down the Paseo de Montejo which was interesting. I know we went in a couple of museums, but I can't remember the names. Sorry! As far as safety, we felt completely safe and had no problems at all. Have fun!

  • I spent a few days in Merida a couple years ago.  I really liked it.  I agree that the main plaza is great for people watching and wandering.  I think it's Sunday nights that they have street festivals.  Also, there's a nice restaurant right off the plaza, on one of the corners across the street.  It had great tacos al pastor!  You could sit at tables on the second floor on these little window balconies and watch the people below.  I felt totally safe there, as well.  Enjoy!

Yes, take the advice above and have tacos al pastor. Yum!! Best washed down with a limonada.
