DH & I are going to take a mini-vacation for the first time in ages. Anyone have good suggestions for where to eat and what to do this weekend? Other than watch the cherry ball drop.Being a holiday, I'm guessing a lot of the usual things might be closed, so specifics would help.
I don't drink, so never mind wineries.

Re: Traverse City Weekend?
You've stumped me with the no drinking thing
Just kidding, TC is awesome for a weekend get away! You guys will definitely have fun!
I love to go to the Apache Trout Grille. It's got awesome seafood. I also like Sleder's family tavern (they have a moose that you can kiss, lol, it's just fun).
I love going shopping in the little towns around the Leelenau peninsula. We normally visit Empire, Glen Arbor, Leeland (my favorite!) and Suttons Bay. Of course we got shopping along Front Street (right in downtown TC).
I think you'll have a great time no matter what you guys do!
Have fun!

We JUST got back from a little Traverse City getaway and had a great time!
Green House Cafe in downtown TC is GREAT for soups/sandwiches and lunches. Poppycock has some intresting salads and lunches as well, also downtown.
Bubba's is really good for burgers. They're in downtown TC and everything on the menu is 1/3 off between 3:00 and 5:30, so if you go for an early-ish dinner, you can save some money.
Moomers is great for ice cream. Simply Cupcakes has great cupcakes.
We went to Suttons Bay, Leland, Glen Arbor, and Northport. All the little towns had like 5 shops and restaurants open because of it being the off season, but they're still fun to drive through and stop by quickly. The Bluebird restaurant in Leland has really tasty smelt baskets if you're into that. Definitely go to Cherry Republic in Glen Arbor... they have tons of different cherry products and samples in three different buildings. It's a fun place to visit. It was SO windy when we were there, so it was really cool to go look at Lake Michigan (it's the non bay side), becasue the waves were HUGE.
We tried to go snow tubing, but no where was open for that yet : (
If you like casinos, Turtle Creek Casino is JUST outside Traverse City. It's really new and nice. We had a good time spending some time there (and winning!).
