I'm scared of a tiny little old lady.

She lives in my building and walks around mumbling racism comments at us every time she sees us. She's all of 90 lbs, tops, and is less than 5 feet tall but she freaks me out so much I will find any excuse not to get into the elevator alone with her. I tried to be friendly the first few months, but she would glare at me and mumble incoherently about " haoles ruining my island." I think she has dementia, and she's probably around 80 years old, but she gives me anxiety. I know it's not just me and my husband, because I'm seen her glaringly mumble-cursing other people.

She was hanging out in the lobby today, so I went through the garage to get out of my building. I am a coward.

Re: I'm scared of a tiny little old lady.

  • This is a real thing.

There's a guy who works in the offices on the first floor of my apartment building and whenever I come home from work he's outside smoking.  And he tries to talk to me.  And all he ever wants to talk about is politics and/or the decline of the city and/or how much his job sucks.  It's so super awkward that I will walk around the outside of the building to come in the side entrance or walk back up the stairs to exit through the side if I see him out there.  My guy is also about 80 and probably just working so he has people to ramble at.

I feel you on this.  I'm just trying to get to my car.  Please don't talk to me.

  • Haha I can totally see that. There was a guy like that in my building too. It was obnoxious, but I think this little old lady just makes me so uncomfortable because of her racist tirades. I can't change the color of my skin, lady!
