Netflix streaming v. HuluPlus

Which would you recommend and why? My ancient DVD player just crapped out on us so we took this opportunity to upgrade to a Blu Ray player and I want to start streaming movies and such. Thanks!

Re: Netflix streaming v. HuluPlus

  • Netflix just raised it's prices, and I've heard they're about to go under.. I am going to cancel my membership soon and am looking into some of the other services out there like hulu, amazon, etc.
  • They have different content so its mostly up to what you want to see. They both work well, have few outages, are similar price etc. HuluPlus has a lot of current TV shows so you can watch an episode you missed last week  but Netflix only has older shows and past seasons so you cant see anything thats out now or just wrapped up recently. Netflix has a much larger movie selection if thats what youre looking for.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • As a former Netflix streaming customer, Hulu Plus would be my suggestion.  The selection on Netflix sucks anymore.

Also, even though your dvd player just died, I would suggest a Redbox membership for watching recent DVD releases on your laptop and connecting it to your TV (you can get an HDMI cord at Best Buy for $20 or less).  Redbox is only $1 per rental, can be reserved online, and their machines are popping up everywhere--supermarkets, pharmacies, etc.

eta: Regular dvds will play in a bluray player. And, Redbox has blurays for rent, too (I think it's $.50 more per rental)
