Advantages to not having the SO around

Let's list some of the positive stuff.

-I haven't had to adjust the seat in my car since I'm the only person driving it.

-I don't consume meat nearly as often when I'm only cooking for myself.

Re: Advantages to not having the SO around

  • You get the entire bed to yourself!!! I can eat what I want and cook completely vegetarian!

  • - don't have to compromise on what to have for dinner -don't have to hear complaints at my trash tv of choice

  • I don't have to do as much laundry.  In a house of 6, we go from 3 loads a day down to two when he is gone.

  • My house is spotless when he's not here! Also, less laundry.
  • I'm not woken up by his alarm clock in the morning.

Score!  J's alarm goes off at 0440.  I have to kick him out of bed because he never gets up on his own when he's home.

  • Having less dishes. When dh is gone I only have to run the dishwasher every couple days.

  • - there is no talking during trashy tv, and no guilt about watching those shows.

    - I get DD all to myself.

    - everything is done on my schedule

    - no dirty dishes are left on the counter (Five years of marriage and I still don't know why she can't put a dirty cup in the sink or dishwasher!)

    - And I never have to back her car out of the driveway in order to get mine out (which was amazing during the snowy months)

  • The dogs and I produce less than a bag of trash each week.  That's largely due to my lack of cooking when Joe's not around.

Less laundry means less laundry detergent, and since only one of us is using the bathroom, there's less scrubbing to do.

No fighting for blankets at night.

  • No complaints from in laws about me not going to see them!

Knowing he's participating in useful missions that as a whole advance the American Grand Strategy!!

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • - I can eat cereal or whatever else I want for supper.

    - Once LO goes to sleep, I can watch all the trashy reality shows I want.

    - Less laundry.

  • Its not often that E is gone anymore but...

I get the bed to myself and can be "spider queen" as he calls me and take up the bed.

I can clean the kitchen and it stay clean.

I don't have to listen to his computer games all the time or watch X-Files or something else I don't like constantly.

I can eat whatever I want!

  • Less laundry, that's a big plus for me.

I can listen to the kind of music I want to listen to.

    My house stays cleaner longer.

I cook less and have less dishes to clean.

I sleep in without feeling guilty.

  • No one cares if I eat silly things like popcorn for dinner. Also, not having to worry about what to make for dinner, because I like everything I cook (or I wouldnt cook it!)

    Less golf on tv

    Spending less on groceries

Less crap food in the house (I dont typically buy it or want it in the store, but it gets tempting when its in the pantry)

  • I was going to say that everything on the DVR is mine. . . But then I realized that is hardly true now. Our DVR is full of Pocoyo, Dinosaur Train, Little Einsteins and Curious George! LOL! Okay, everything on the DVR was recorded by me, how's that?

Our schedule is ours/mine. As Meltoine mentioned once, when DH is home during the day, I can't seem to get anything done!

Last deployment, we travelled a ton! LO was free, on my lap, and we had the extra deployment money, so we visited family and friend's from NY to California! This coming deployment, I hope that LO and I are even more adventurous!

Again, last deployment, a beer and "natural" Cheeots were frequently my dinner. I will have to be better this time around, but my beer selection (and wine, too) will be greatly expanded!

  • I'm right there with you on the popcorn for dinner!  I get to eat what I want and don't have to listen to the TV being on all the time.  There is less housework, but since I've stopped doing almost all housework it doesn't make much difference. Ugh.  We're at 8 months now and it sucks.

  • No boot mud on my clean, just mopped floor!

I can decorate without him automatically assuming he isn't going to like it before I even paint it/hang it up/sew it/whatever!
