2012 resolutions

I know this was posted on the baby board...but I thought I would start a thread over here as well to try and get the board moving a little bit. And it seems like a great spin off on Kristin's NYE post Smile

Re: 2012 resolutions

  • I have my usual ones - get back in the routine of exercising and eating a little better, and saving money.

But, this year, I really want to try and make time to learn something new - like a hobby or something. Also, I will be making a point to be a better friend to wonderful people in my life. And, there are several family members I haven't had in my life in a long time (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc) that I would like to attempt to get in contact with again.

  • I want to try and take better care of myself in general - skincare, eating right, exercising, flossing daily, etc. Also, we've decided that this is the year we will try and travel more than we've been able to in the past.
  • I'll re-post :)

    My three main goals are:

    1. Lose the rest of my baby weight (only about 5 pounds) and also, get back into working out regularly.  Be it walking, jogging, P90X, whatever.  But it has to be something 3 or more times/week.

    2. Use the Dave Ramsey cash system to budget our house hold.  This goes hand in hand with paying down some debt and building an e-fund.  If the cash system works, we should be able to start making headway on some of those small debts.  I'm not expecting to pay anything off this year, I just want to get into the right habits.

    3. Meal plan, coupon, and sale grocery shop.  Which kind of goes a long with budgeting.  We've already done one week of it and it should work if I can keep DH on board since he does most of the cooking.  I'm trying to buy/plan meals that contain items that are on sale that week at HEB.

  • The usual getting back on track. I was running regularly, but that's slacked off recently so I want to get back into it along with eating better.

I also want to keep in touch with friends better. I haven't maintained many friendships from high school or college since I moved to Texas and I'd love to get back in regular contact with a few of my close friends.

  • argh.  I hate the word resolutions.  I don't make em.

However, I'm currently working the following:

I'd like to be lighter.  No specific number in mind... but lighter and more thoughtful of the food I consume.

I'd like to get pregnant in 2012.

I'd like for DH and I to get a hobby, together.  I'm thinking tennis...

I'd like to continue the pattern of savings DH and I established in 2011.  I'm really proud of our money management and I want it to continue.

  • I already made one of my resolutions come true (which was also one last year) - I am debt free! I paid off my student loan this week & my car last year, so I have no debt! Woo-hoo! Dave Ramsey is a great resource for people trying to improve their money managing skills.

Also I'd like to become more active, get outdoors more, lose some weight

We're also planning on getting a dog soon, so I want to succeed at training and integrating a dog into our life.

And last of all, I want to travel as much as possible this year. We've already planned a cruise to Alaska in the summer, so it's a good start :)

I hope everyone had a great New Year's and I'm looking forward to the get together and book club!
