Neighborhood cookie exchange help

I'm hosting a cookie swap for my neighborhood this month and I need some suggestions. Our neighborhood is still pretty new and we don't know everyone really well so how do I organize a CE without everyone bringing the same cookie? Also, what is the best way to package the cookies for everyone? Basically if you have hosted or been to a CE what worked well or didn't work out for you? Thanks for the suggestions!

Re: Neighborhood cookie exchange help

  • The one I go to has everyone RSVP with their recipe and it was sort of first one in gets it.  We are responsible to bring our own packages to take cookies home.

That said, I usually see these things hosted going into the holidays.  That way people can make their specialty and swap to make platters for hosting through December.  Are you set on cookies for a particular reason?  If you are just wanting to get people together to mingle can I suggest a chili cookoff?

  • The chili cook off sounds fun too! We all got too busy this year and didn't have time to host the cookie swap before Christmas. We have a ton of kids in the neighborhood and I think cookies might be easier for everyone with young kids. Maybe in a few years we'll switch over to the chili! Thanks!
  • Joelen from the WC Board has a great Food Swap tag with tons of ideas.
  • Here is a link to some ideas, http://allrecipes.com/howto/cookie-exchange-party/ There are some good ideas in there about packaging the cookies.

Also, I would recommend using evite where people can post what cookies/bars/treats they will be bringing when they RSVP. This way, guests can see what others are bringing and they will hopefully not duplicate.

Sounds like a fun way to get to know your neighbors!  Good luck!
