Mac -- MobileMe to iCloud?

Mac people, I have some questions regarding upgrading: I'm finally going to move from my MobileMe account to iCloud. My MacBook is old (running 10.6.8 with only 2GB RAM); my iMac is slightly newer (probably also running 10.6.8 but I think it has 4GB). My iPhone is a 3GS (I'm waiting for the 5) and our iPad is a 2 (newest - just a few months).

This will required updating to Lion (running Snow Leopard now) and I have to move to iCloud for my scheduling for work, etc.  A few questions for you:

1) Will updating to Lion slow my older computers down any? Right now, they're not superfast, but they're working fine and very dependable. I don't want to mess with that.

2) Do I need to update my iPhone/iPad at all? They're both running at least 5.0.0 and I don't want to mess with that if I don't have to.

3) Any other thoughts/issues/concerns you wish to share? Like I said, I could do hard syncs more often if I have to, but I know me and I will forget.  Would those of you who've upgraded recommend I work on simply improving my memory and forget the upgrade? ;)

Thanks!!

I moved from MobileMe to iCloud and so far am very pleased. As for your specific questions:

    1. I cannot speak to updating older computers as I have yet to do that since I recently purchased a new iMac. However, as long as your machines match the system requirements (http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html) I don't see why they would slow down. I have yet to have an OS update slow any of my Macs.

    2. As long as you are running iOS 5 you are good.

    3. I am glad I upgraded as it makes things so much easier but I have one computer that is running Lion. My only complaint so far is the loss of iDisk but I didn't use it much anyway.

  • You need at least 2 GB of RAM to run lion. 4 GB is preferred. Don't do it if you don't have 4 GB.
  • Also, you should always run updates. Updates are fixing bugs in the software.
