When do you put all Christmas stuff away?

I know some neighbors have their live tree outside Christmas day afternoon.  I like my festive things up through the holidays, so everything is still in place as of NewYear'sDay.

Anyone keep things up longer?

Re: When do you put all Christmas stuff away?

  • Ours is still up. I'll probably put it away sometime this week. We don't have a "normal" time yet.
  • before kids - we kept it up until new years day.... now that xmas = tons of new toys- we need the space, and take it all down on the 26th when teh kids are napping.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • New Year's Day. That's what I remember my mother doing when I was a kid, and that's what I do now.

  • I usually do it New Years day.  Though I am sitting here right now with my tree still up and lite.  I am off tomorrow so I plan on taking it down then.

  • We usually keep the tree and decorations up until sometime in January. This year I got into an organizing/cleaning frenzy one night while I was up with drunk/hungover DH (long story) and took all the decorations down. DH was sure surprised the next morning when all the decorations were gone.

  • I wait until after New Year's Day.  I still haven't put it away yet.  I probably will this weekend.

  • Sometime between the day after Christmas and New Year's day depending on when the mood strikes.
  • LOL we didn't go through all the trouble with the lights to only have them up for two or three weeks! Those suckers are staying up until the end of January!

  • We're going away for our anniversary this coming weekend, so I had it all down by noon this past Saturday.

It was a nice first married Christmas but there was enough family drama to make me no want to see another ornament for another 12 months.

I did leave some of the more generic "winter" decorations up though, and of course the season themed candles, can't go with out those.

I also can't bring myself to throw away a perfectly healthy poinsettia plant. I wonder if it would live if I planted it out side in the spring?

  • We celebrate the epiphany on Jan 6 so we usually take stuff down the weekend after that.

We celebrate the epiphany on Jan 6 so we usually take stuff down the weekend after that.

This is what we usually do, too, but the 15 month old got more and more daring about trying to touch the (glass) ornaments, so we decided to take it down early this year, Jan 2.

  • 26th everything came down and put away.

  • We're Catholic and we usually put our Christmas stuff away after the Epiphany (the Baptism of Jesus - which usually ends up being the 2nd Sunday in January).  So - this weekend we'll start taking all the Christmas stuff down and put it away until next year!

  • All of ours was down within a few days.
  • Our outside decorations were down December 26 (mostly because it was a 40 degree day in MI and we figured we may as well do it while it's nice out to ensure it's not up until Easter). I also un-decorated the inside that day, sans tree.

Un-decorated tree on NYD then took it to the basement on Jan. 2.

  • I took down our sideboard decorations after New Years. We take down our tree after the 6th.

Our sideboard is just a runner with a festive centrepiece and any cards we receive displayed. That and our Christmas tree is all we do.

  • Whew - I got the last packed up this morning.  I saw one little thing that was left out, but that will be easy.

It is so nice to get everything back to place and christmas-decluttered.

*Going to get the Christmas wreath off the front porch  :-/*

  • We always took ours down after Jan. 6th (the twelfth day of Christmas) when I was growing up, so I decided to keep that tradition. Plus the glow of the tree makes me happy. Our living room now looks so empty without it.
  • We took down the tree 3 days (or 2 days?) after Christmas because we were leaving for OOT and our tree was live and I think it's a fire hazard to keep it up while we're away. I don't mind seeing people keep up their decor throughout the winter though. [:

  • Usually a week or so after Christmas.  I like to take it down on New Years Eve or New Years Day.  However we've taken it down up to two weeks past Christmas.
