First day of daycare

DH and I dropped Newnan, our Lab-Pittie mix, off for his daycare evaluation this morning. She took him back to the play area and said he was doing great, just nervous! We get a free day of daycare today while they evaluate him all day, which works out since we had bowl game plans. We've been watching him on the webcams...he seems to have found plenty of friends. It's naptime now so the cams are disabled. Here's hoping for a great report this afternoon! We're hoping to buy a 10-day pass to use once a week or so for the next couple of months.

Re: First day of daycare

  • That's great!! He should be really tired when he gets home. Our lab also drinks a ton of water when he gets home too.
  • Cool!  I'm a little jealous - wish we had a daycare for Bella :)
  • I was so nervous on Quincy's first day of daycare. I think I refreshed the webcam off and on all day!  Of course he was fine, and it sounds like Newnan is too.  Quincy goes twice a week to two different places; it's great exercise and social time.

  • DH and I love daycare, if only he can go play with his daycare friends more often :) He comes home tired and sleepy. The first day was the worst/best. He just wanted to sleep. Could barely hold his head up! He's not quite as tired now when he comes back home. He still plays with me for about an hour (following me around, 5 mins of fetch, chews a toy next to me) and then he crashes for the night!

He was a super high energy puppy and the report for this evaluation was great "he was a little shy". ha! He is so not like that at home. I guess being around a lot more dogs than the usual one or two we meet on our walks was a little too much.

  • Oh and it's perfectly normal for them to be nervous at first.  Quincy was nervous at his first day care and even at his second, even though he was a pro at day care by the time we started him at that one.  It goes away.

  • I totally downloaded the OnlineDoggy app and paid the $4.99 fee to watch the webcam on my phone while I was at a football watching party :) Everytime I looked, he was having a great time.

We picked him up and they said he had a great first day. They said he played with EVERY dog there and that was unusual for a first timer. He promptly passed out in the car while we ran a couple of errands. He was definitely ready for dinner when we got home. I think he had a great time, but missed us because he hasn't left my side :)
