QOTD:Monday

Sorry so late. I meant to do this before I got the girls up this morning but they were up before me and I just online.

So, if you could live anywhere in the US, where would it be?  Go ahead and answer based on current standard of living and if you hit the jackpot.

Re: QOTD:Monday

  • I would love to stay in Virginia but move farther away from the city, maybe Winchester or Culpeper.

  • current standard of living: we are still trying to figure this out! we like it here but it's not where we want to live forever, we miss some things about NYC but not others . . . perhaps chicago because we could actually afford a rather nice apartment there.

jackpot: downtown new york with a summer house in RI

    image
  • We're very likely to stay in Virginia forever. It just makes sense with both of our jobs and the cost of living, etc.

Jackpot: Somewhere in Silicon Valley  (CA) with a wrap around porch and 5 acres.

  • Current Standard: If nothing major changes, we're planning to move back to Chicago in about 3-5 years. We want a big family and couldn't possibly afford a large enough house in the DC area on just my H's income.

Jackpot: I love warm climates. I wouldn't mind staying in Alexandria in a giant house, or any warm state. I love San Diego! The midwest is way too cold for me..

  • Current: I would go back to Columbus, Ohio. It is where DH and I met and it's so freaking cheap. If we could have the same salaries in OH as we do here, we would be rolling in the dough. We have a nice standard of living here but we would be money in Ohio.

Jackpot: I would probably have a freaking sweet house in the DC area...probably would buy in Capitol Hill.

  • Charlottesville or Chicago

  • I like it here just fine.

My dream is to live in a really nice apartment (2 levels, doorman) in Manhattan. DH's dream is HI. I think we'll stay here LOL

  • Current standard: Probably right here, really. I know that's boring, but our family is all here and now that we have C it would be really, really hard to leave. A few years ago we seriously contemplated a move to Charlotte, NC, though.

Jackpot: Somewhere in Napa or Sonoma.

  • Current standard: If the winters were not so cold- we would go to Chicago or Boston but since those things are not changing, we will probably stay here. DH has been offered several moves for his job to Florida but he does not want to go. I could easily move to warm weather and cheap housing :-) I would move to San Francisco in a heart beat!

Jackpot: coastal northern California with a vacation place on Sanibel.

  • Current: I'd stay here

Jackpot:  I'd go back to Ohio and just not work anymore

  • Hmmm, I don't know.  I'm happy enough here, but I don't love it.  If it were up to me, we'd live somewhere else... I just don't know where.  Probably somewhere where the weather never goes below 60, and never goes above 95.

Hit the jackpot?  A huge house on a swimmable, warm beach.

  • current standard of living = here. My kids are here, John's elderly dad is here. We own our house, and I have a great job (yay for promotion in 2011!).

jackpot = the beach. Any beach. My dream is to retire to a beach where I can hear the waves every day. Preferably a large house so my family can come stay with us, and with a pool, too, so my dog can swim in it every day.

  • NY, either in parts of Queens or LI.

yay queens! if we hit the jackpot, i would also take a nice apartment in long island city so i could have a manhattan view. i lived in queens for ten years and still miss my neighborhood favorites.

  • I would probably move back to Wisconsin where DH and I grew up.  This is also where both of our familes and all our friends are.

hitting the jackpot:  I'd probably still have a house in WI but then I'd also have a vacation home somewhere warm, near the ocean.

  • Current:  If I didn't have to take into account DH's opinion (hrmph!) I would totally go back to my home town in NJ or someplace right around there.  He doesn't want to live in Jersey.  He would say he'd go live in TX or OK - and suffice to say - I do NOT want to live those places.  So Northern VA or VA in general is our compromise!

Jackpot: A really big house in Northern Jersey.  Stick out tongue

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.

Yes  I would love to live there again; I miss it so much!  Whenever we go back to visit think, "ahh, home!"

  • Current:  I would love live in between NYC and NE PA which would put close to both of our families, or even back near my hometown in NE PA.  However our jobs keep us here, far from family :-(

Jackpot: I would probably again say the same as current but it would be a nicer house school district.

  • imagetracy042206:

or even back near my hometown in NE PA.

Where you from? I grew up in Wilkes-Barre.

Current: Right here is fine for now. Would like a lower COL area/less trafficky area, but then Otto probably wouldn't have the job he needs. But ... hmmmm .... if his company offered him a gig in Charleston, they probably wouldn't have to twist my arrn very hard.

Jackpot/Very possible future: We absolutely have plans to find a beach community on the East Coast in about 10 years. Would LOVE to have a beachfront home but will have to see if that'll be possible that soon. We might rent in a few areas before finding a low-key but culture / music-rich area to settle in. We'd also be open to a West Coast beach, and OMG it would be awesome if we owned a getaway in Italy, too.

  • Current: I'm fine with where we are. In fact, I could see us living here for the rest of our lives, as long as we can afford to buy someday.

Jackpot: AZ, namely Sedona. I have family there, and it's gorgeous and so laid back.

  • Current: NoVa or North Jersey (Bergen County that is)

Money no object: North Jersey or here with a weekend house on the water.

I like the way you think - I said big house in Northern Jersey, but I love the idea of a weekend house - definitely on the water.  For me, not the beachy ocean beach, but a bay or river or lake.  Sigh... if only.

Bangor, PA, it is just south of the Poconos and 80 so a bit south of Wilkes-Barre but I spent some time up that way visiting my best friend at Scranton in college.

Ahhhh. Such a small world! Will think of you next time I pass through!

Same here, not that I don't love the shore, I do - but for my day in and day out water, I want something calm and inviting that has nearby trees to shade me in the hot weather...  I seriously think that's one of the shortfalls of the DC area, not enough nearby lakes for weekend getaways.
