anyone in higher education?

how did you find your position and what were your qualifications?  I'd like to teach education courses and supervise student teachers.  At the end of this year I'll have been teaching for 6 years, have a masters, and have reading specialist and supervisor certificates.  I've applied for a few adjunct jobs, with just the masters and reading specialist certificate, right now, and haven't had any luck yet.

  • You can get adjunct positions and student teacher supervision positions with just your masters, but if you really want to move into higher ed, then you need to get your doctorate.

This. My friend did this exactly. But this was her plan from the start, she graduated college early and finished her doctorate in a short period of time as well. She also teaches physics and other specialized sciences classes.

  • I agree w/ PP.  I taught middle school for 8 years and then got my PhD in curriculum and instruction.  I am now a professor of education.  With your qualifications, you can be an adjunct.  Supervising teachers would be hard if you are still teaching since you would need to be free during the day.  Most universities have a list of supervisors. I would contact their field experience office if you want to get on their list.  Higher ed jobs are listed on two places:  The Chronicle of Higher Education's job website and higheredjobs.com

    Good luck!
